What does Yaoi and Yuri mean???
Link | by Aoi Hitomi (Blue Eyes) on 2005-11-19 04:40:02
There's a few threads on this site about yaoi and yuri(or yui?)parings.
I've seen Seto Kaiba and Joey/Jonouchi Wheeler paired-up a lot.
What does yaoi and yuri mean????
I keep thinking it means gay, for some reason...(Seto is not gay!)
This too, "Bishie" is short for bishounen(girls manga/anime), right?

yes, bishie is short for bishounen/bishoujo (I guess..)

yaoi=guyXguy
yuri=girlXgirl

I find it disgusting...

no probs... just let them be. it's their opinion, their just anime. I like Yuki Sohma, Kaworu Nagisa and many more anime guys who they say are gay too... ^^ Can't disagree much but, I think their minds are just too malicious. :D

It really depends though...Some Yaoi pairings are okay, but others are totally outrageous! A probable Yaoi pairing which I think is almost natural is Yukito & Touya [From Cardcaptor Sakura]. They're almost loving in volume 10/11 of the manga!

now, I like Yukito as well... see what I mean? I seem to like the guys which most people think are gay. Is that bad? :D In the first part, I thought Li was the one who was gay since he keeps on flushing. Why does he do that?? T_T

I don't have a problem with yaoi or yuri. But some of it gets out of hand. For example, someone showed me Hamtaro yaoi last week. Something is truly wrong with society...

Actually, shounen-ai is guyxguy love in general. Yaoi usually tends to refer to things that are more...explicit. There isn't really a difference between shoujo-ai and yuri. Personally, I like shounen-ai and yaoi. I don't really care about yuri.

There is alot of shounen/shoujo-ai in Card Captor Sakura. Touya and Yukito are an official pairing. Yukito admits that he loves Touya and Sakura says that Touya definitely loves him too. Syaoran kept on blushing because he had a crush on Yukito too, which was why he was so competitive with Sakura. But later on, he finds out that he was only attracted to Yukito because of Yue's powers and realizes that he really loves Sakura. Other one-sided pairings are Yue loving Clow, Ruby Moon liking Touya, Tomoyo loving Sakura, and Sonomi loving Nadeshiko.

my reimai, kitsu-chan loves, i mean loves yaoi. i dont see nothing wrong with it, im a guy, and yes im straight, but i dont see nothing wrong with it. and im not really interested in it, but since reimai loves it so much i got used to it and sometimes i agree with the pairings. i doesnt mean that the character is gay, its just a fantasy that they have.

I like yaoi. And a little yuri. But I'm gay. But sometimes it gets really out of hand. When species mix, its time to pull out the lighter and burn the manga you just read.

I don't have a problem with yaoi or yuri, and don't really see anything wrong with it. It's just anime. I like Gravitation a lot.(It's not like it doesn't happen in real life)

I don't mind depending on what pairing it is:

GOOD YAOI/YURI PAIRINGS:
Touya and Yukito
Michiru and Haruka
Ayame and Shigure (lol)
Haru and Yuki (LOL!!!)
Li and Yuki would be cute too lol

BAD YAORI/YURI PAIRINGS
Theres lot's...made up ones that just does not fit...e.g Tohru and Hana-chan, Uo chan and Hana chan and various variations...Yuki and Kyo...etc...etc...

yaoi: boys love
yuri: girls love

I don't really like that kind of thing though. In the anime/ manga I mean. I always got this goosebumps thing if I read these kind of thing.

dunno what to write now... oh yeah... i'm gonna be crazy now...

im still confused...the early posts said yaoi=guysxguys, yuri=girlxgirls...then another said yaoi+boys love and yuri=girls love?
does that mean gays and lesbos?or just a rivalry thing...looking at the example given to the first post...

It means friggin gay make out crud!!! Who cares which is which! They're BOTH messed up!

Yaoi= two gay guys
yuri= two gay girls

Still Confused?
Well if you are, just remember to stay away from both. They both are bad and tend to just be plain messed up.

Beware the quiet people, You don't know their intentions

If there is fanart between two characters that are blatenly not gay like Seto Kaiba it does not mean that they think he is a gay character with gay tendencies, i normally take it that the people who create yaoi fan art like the idea of that character having feelings for another of the same sex, for example Jonouchi and Kaiba are not gay however many people who create pictures of these two characters either really like one of the characters and like to see them in contraversial situations or the idea of this couple is an interesting idea, that no way would happen!

BTW, Fake is an extremly cute yaoi, i love this manga it rocks...Dee is sooo sexy!!

And, Kizuna is also a very cute yaoi, i love Kei in this one, seme's rock!

It could though. The fun part of yaoi fics is writing that love so it seems natural. It's just not as good when the subjects are out of character. Seto and Jonouchi might fight and bitch and appear to hate each other... but mightn't they be insisting they hate each other just a *little* too often? ^_~ The writer might think they're secretly gay anyway is what I mean, but whether they do or not it's the story that counts- the motives behind it are often pretty open to interpretation.

Not all yaoi is without meaning. "Hideki walks down the corridor to Shimbo's apartment and they have wild monkey-sex on the futon" would *not* be a good yaoi fic. "Seto and Jonouchi have similarly uncomfortable pasts and one night they're both angsting away and suddenly it all spills out and OMG they are the only ones who could possibly understand each other and one finally gets up his courage and tells they other what he *really* thinks of him and then, maybe after a few drinks, one of them makes a little suggestion and the other one hits him and then reconsiders... *then* they have wild monkey sex on the futon" is a good plot for a yaoi fic.

Shounen-ai means literally "boys love". It's less graphic that yaoi, which I don't believe has a direct translation. Slash would do, except the characters are often original characters, like in Kizuna.

Shoujen-ai, by the same token, is "girls love". I know very little about shoujen-ai, but I had assumed it would be milder than yuri, which is girlxgirl yaoi.

I think "bishounen" (pretty boy) is the word which gets shortened to "bishi". If I heard "bishi" I would automaticaly assume you were talking about a man... ne? I mean, I guess bishoujen works, but do people really use that word? And do they shorten it to bishi? Now I'm confused too!

What a surprise to see you in here Naz. ^_~ How's the fic coming? And Ryo rocks my socks off. ^_^

yeah ... i loves Yaoi ... i HATED it first ... believe me ... really hated it ...!!! but after doing some research (coz i'm so damn curious!!) on some translated yaoi doujinshis and FanFics ... wow ... i am now stuck ..!! eerrrgghhh ...!!! damn stuck ..!!

LOL hard at myself ...

But not all kind of Yaoi pairings that interests me ... i mostly refer to a romantic/humor kinda fics/DJs ... cool, tough guys with a soft heart and movements (don't like kinda girly) ... and for Yuri ... i also prefer the hyperactive, tough and cool characters ... well ... may be it's all about dominance ...
