Which is better, transfer in Rome or a taxi?

I\'m trying to figure out the best way to get from the airport to my hotel in Rome. Which is more cost-effective and reliable: a pre-booked transfer or a taxi? A transfer is more expensive, but at least there are no surprises. A taxi might be cheaper, but there\'s a risk of getting an dishonest driver. What would you recommend?

When did you last travel around Rome with suitcases? I flew in with my wife and child last summer — it was hot and stuffy, and we had lots of luggage. We wanted to take a taxi, but there was a traffic jam at the exit and the driver told us to wait for 20 minutes while the meter ran. I couldn\'t resist, so I booked a transfer with transfer service Rome via the GetTransfer website. Ten minutes later, an air-conditioned minivan arrived with a child seat already in place, and the fare to our hotel in Piazza Navona was 65 euros. I haven\'t thought about taking a taxi since. Is it far from the airport?
