OMG!! You can have an anime club at your school?!?!?!?!?! What school do you go to??? *prepares to transfer there* lol @@
Hmm...Ideas for the club...Well, people could bring in a bunch of different animes to watch for one...Maybe have some fanfic/fanart thingies... lol I can't really think of much else. Oooh, if people in the club could get japanese penpals, that would be cool too. I'm not sure how you could fit that into it, but I'm sure there's a way. Having a japanese penpal is awesome. The girl I write too is named Sayaka, she's so nice. ^.^
If I think of more, I'll post again. Does that help any? *still wants to transfer to your school*

Lucky, my school would'nt let me make an Anime club or my N.A. club "Neko Alliance" they said it was a waste of time. well since u can i would have people bring in different japanese style foods and if they cant teach them how to make basic sushi atleast. ummm u could also offer to teach other kids japanese if their intrested and have like a "study period". u should teach people to draw manga. also get all the people in your club to join this board and donate lol. oh yeah and i dont know how they did it but my friends school had a club and they got 20% percent off all anime at the store downtown for being in the club. oh well hope this helps it actually sounds like i'm ranting :/

I'll post with how my friends club got the discounts if i can, and another thought is u should take the club to a con or something once a year, u could fund-raise or have evryone pay, oh and try and get a trip to japan that would need fund-raised but would be great.

We've had an anime club for a while and while all of you have very innovative suggestions - some of them aren't quite plausible. (No way would I eat sushi prepared in a high school ^_^) For our club, we have an agreement with Bandai in which we preview DVDs in exchange for filling out surveys. At the moment, I've forgotten the website url, but I'll post it if you are interested. We basically watch a DVD per meeting and hold Swap or Sells in which we purchase/trade manga/anime/whatever. On holidays, we hold parties in which we pick an appropiately themed anime, bring DDR, and PS2 games and members are free to wander to whichever section. We also have door prizes and other reward games. However, I think having some activities besides watching anime is a good idea - drawing, culture discussions, Japanese language lessons. Don't hesistate to survey your club members for their opinions on any ideas presented here. Also, if you haven't already, try to find an adult/teacher sponser of your club - this makes things a lot easier.
Eh...funding. That's going to be difficult. You could always stand outside major stores with cans, your typical bake sales, car washes, rummage sales, etc... Understandably, students and their amount of generousity vary from school to school but our members are pretty stingy. However, you could always ask for donations from within the clubs.

Ohayo, I'm in the UK and in two weeks launch an anime society at my (now-ex)University with two friends. I have the following advice I have gleaned from being secretary.
1. Make friends in a shop near you where you get your anime/manga and see if you can negotiate a discount *City Cyber Anime in Leeds and Travelling Man everybody!*
2. Organise nights/days for regular anime watchings and maintain an open-door system (some people can't make it every night/week/time).
3. Cater to a variety of tastes (unless you're specified) and don't be afraid to show new things.
4. Operate a lending system but keep track on your stuff.
5. Realise that there will always be members of the society who are (or think they are) more obsessed than anyone.
6. Keep in contact regularly like group e-mails or newletters (or an MSN groups or something).
7. Have social visits and trips (Karaoke anyone? Ramen shopping was two weeks ago!).
8. Try to remember faces and tastes (a bizarre one but it keeps members and makes them feel wanted).
9. Don't become exclusive (i.e. Only GENUINE otaku (and those that like insert-anime-name-here) can join us). Others who are not enormous fans or want to try something new aren't inclined to come along if they're gonna be side-lined.
10. Be prepared to accept anything (last terms 10 week trial run involved a Hentai Night (shakes head at chair) and an agreement that I would dress up as a magical girl for the launch.
11. Have a good time whilst doing it and remeber that Pocky makes everything better :)
Good luck!

A female android season wouldn't hurt, either. Or maybe that's just me.

Anime club, I have one of thoe at my school. :D And we're pretty active, well pretty active for having around 10 members. xD
We've made over $90 in our club within a period of... A month. xD; We had a bake sale with our school Asian Srudent Association and split the profit, and then we made money at our school festival by forcing me to work as an artist and having me "anime-tise" people for pay. Well, the anime-tizing idea made us something over $60, and the bake sale made us something over $25. xDD; And then we're taking the money and buying more manga for our school library, since our library has SOME manga, but it's almsot all shoujo manga. ;_; So we're getting a load of shounen stuff. ^_^;;
And I think that's about all the advice I have to give... ^^;

First of, I just wanna say this list is really helpful since my friends and I started an Anime Club recently in our high school (here's the secret - get a really cool teacher to help you!). So far, we're still a bit shaky with membership and activities, but I will post some suggestions that fared well (or at least okay) with us:
1. Let the club members vote on which anime to watch.
2. Show things that most might not have seen (we did Grave of the Fireflies, though if you can get something not in the US yet, that might be cooler - my friend got a bootleg of Appleseed, which would be awesome for the club if our members were more into such anime).
3. Anime trivia contest.
4. Fundraising with Pocky! We sold out in mere minutes (well...it was only forty boxes).
5. Innovate and always ask for suggestions!
Good luck to you!
