Okay, I used to be a really big Fullscreen fan, but when my sister came home from college she said watching Fullscreen should be a sin. I asked her why and she told me the whole thing about missing parts of the picture in Fullscreen. Now that I know that, I am trying to get my friends and family members switch. However, where does this leave anime creators? Should anime be Fullscreen or Widescreen? Should it move on along with the Widescreen revolution? Myself, I think it should move along as more and more people get Widescreen TVs. Since there is no real film with anime, it can be made either way and you won't be missing any of the picture. I guess it really depends more on wether or not it is a movie. For anyone who thinks that you are not missing any picture in Fullscreen movies, you are. I have this picture for proof: (Taken by myself) http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b268/tasuki17502/vlcsnap-3084931.png Yes, it is from the DVD My Big Fat Greek Wedding. My mom bought it a while back, and it was the only DVD I could think of that we own that had that screen. What do you think about Fullscreen and widescreen in anime? Do you watch Fullscreen or Widescreen movies? Just curious! |

Of course I watch anything in its original form, anime subbed and movies wide as they come. When it comes to anime, most of it comes straight to dvd or TV airing so unless the large majority of TVs becomes widescreen anime should remain fullscreen. Anime movies like Appleseed, Cowboy Bebop, etc. that go to theatres would obviously remain widescreen. |

We prefer widescreen and have for many years. If a feature is available on DVD or has the choice of wide or full screen we choose widescreen. don't forget widescreen is the defaut for HDTV and the japanese have had that for a long time so a lot of anime is made for widescreen anb the full screen versions we get are framed for american TV. If you hafe a choice get widescreen. It not enjoy fullscreen. |

As far as producing a show, be it a movie or anime, however the creators feel they can best tell the story is fine by me; However, when it comes to buying DVD versions of a show or movie that are available either way, it's Widescreen for me... The main/only reason being that if something is available in Widescreen, then that is how it was originally created, as is frequently the case with movies, such as Lord of the Rings, and if you get a fullscreen version, you actually do miss some things, due to the trimming of the sides of the picture for the film to fit your screen; I must admit that I don't have a Widescreen TV, but in the case that I do get one, I'm all ready set up for it, anyway; And like I said, I prefer movies/films the way the creator made them :D |

widescreen (because it's better with captions)
