For the Filipinos: Orange and Lemons rip off!!!??
|
Yesterday i was reading a sunday newspaper when i saw the article about orange and lemons. It is said that they ripped off the song "pinoy ako" (the theme song of pinoy big brother) from a foreign group called THE CARE. It is claimed that they copied the rythm of THE CARE's song "the chandeliers". The group denied the accusations of the music writer who knew that they really copied the said song. For me, i don't know how to react to his issue but let's just hope that THE TRUTH WILL SET US FREE... :)

Rip-offs are common in the Pop culture, but copying the "rythm"? you say? the rhythm: 1. The pattern of musical movement through time. 2. A specific kind of such a pattern, formed by a series of notes differing in duration and stress: a waltz rhythm. 3. A group of instruments supplying the rhythm in a band. 4. A specific kind of metrical pattern or flow You can't really ripoff someone else's rhythem, because it's like saying A: "OMG! you wrote your music in 4/4 meter YOU BASTARD YOU COPIED ME!!" B: "NO! I WROTE MINE FIRST! YOU COPIED ME!" Yeah? So are you sure you don't mean, the melody? I'll eat you. |

Personally, i haven't heard of the song "the chandeliers" by THE CARE. So i can't really decide if it's really the melody they copied. The music writer, the one who said that they really copied it said that she has evidence that will make her statement credible. Some of her evidence are: 1.She has the e-mails of one of the members of "orange and lemons" . Maybe you are wondering "how did she get those e-mails, well she said that they have the same e-mail group w/one of the members. In the e-mail, the member said that "....we didnt have to ask permission to the band(THE CARE),actually they should thank us because they will be famous because we use their material..." 2.She has both copies of the song and she can tell where did the copying started.

you know, most of the times, artists tend to compose their lyrics on previous songs that they've heard. it might be accidental that they have based the beat of "Pinoy Ako" to The Care's "The Chandeliers." it doesn't mean that they DID inentionally copy it. but whatever it is, it still's good. *blip* *blip* |

Well yeah it is good, but the problem is the intellectual rights of the song. For example,i'm about to create a song and i'm ging to use the rythm of an another song, then i ask first the permission to use it. But in this situation, they didn't get the permission. I think there is a big chance that they will be acquited of the charges...
