Id say the egg. Some different type of bird lays an egg, and the egg hatches and happens to be a mutant version of the bird. This mutant bird is the chicken.

I agree... the chicken evolved from a normal bird. Therefore, its egg arrived first.

The chicken came first. If you look at it in a christian perspective. When god created the heavens and the earth, with all the animals in the Garden of Eden. There you go, he created the chicken, lol. Bad example, but you get teh idea. Also with the evolution thought, what if the bird before the chicken didn't lay an egg? Or what if the chicken evolved into itself after hatching from the egg. It could have been a funky looking one-winged bird, then turned into the chicken. Plus if the egg arrived first for the chicken, that means the egg would have arrived first for the other bird. And so on and so on until all of the sudden you just have an egg that came out of nowhere. Obviously some bird had to lay the egg, so that bird had to come first to lay the egg to ultimately make the chicken. Get it?

I'm a christian and i think it was the egg, because the bible is symbolic not all real (for most of it's stories)

"Empires rise and fall, but evil is eternal"

From a scientific perspective, neither came first because evolution happens gradually over a very long period of time. A group of birds would have become gradually more "chicken-like" over a period of time.

If you look at the Genisis story, the chicken obviously came first when God created all the animals.

I think it was the chicken, because in Genesis of the Bible it states that God created the animals. But really, there is like no simple answer to this question. If the chicken came first where was the egg. If the egg came first where was the chicken that laid egg.

The chicken evolved from the cuccos. Link is the one who hatches the first chicken. It is also Link's fault the cuccos are extinct, slicing one then, they all come after him and he uses them as target practice. Which is why Gannondorf tried taking over Hyrule, to put an end to Link's tyrany.

chicken. need the chicken to make the egg and trust me, the egg doesn't make itself from a bunch of cells coming out of nowhere.

hey sturm: if you're christian, you should know that God made the chicken before the egg. And the Bible is both symbolic AND real (the stories are true as well).

there you go.

You dont need a chicken to make an egg, you dont even need a bird to make one.

The title of this thread implies which 1 came first, well reptiles laid eggs way before birds ever existed, so the egg.

Now to the real question which came first the chicken or the chicken egg.

Think this. If a different type of bird lays an egg (lets say that bird is the closest type of bird to the chicken, we'll call this bird a shicken.) and that egg happens to become a chicken. Is that egg a chicken egg because it hatched a chicken?
Or is that egg the egg of the shicken because that bird is the one who layed the egg?

Cells coming out of nowhere? What about chickens coming out of nowhere?

i think we're talking about the egg of a chicken in general, not the egg of some other species.

and the chicken didn't "come out of nowhere", God made it!

Ahh heres the problem the old question came before the concept of evolution.

According to me the only animal if any animal that god just created were single celled organisms.

I trust the theory of evolution because there is outstanding evidence backing it up. I myself consider it to be a proven fact.

Its best not to trust the bible, it has no proof, and there inlies a major problem. God didnt write the bible, a bunch of people did.

I see this turning ugly... *whimpers*

BTW Lucian, you're completely right. Historians judge on the environment and activities of the people, and come to the conclusion that he was born sometime during September! Christmas was adapted in order to "recruit" Pagans into being Christians by having a celebration near the Winter Solstice partays.

Oh, and you know who their kids had kids with. Wink.
