Learning Sales Force with 0 Experience

So I had a friend of mine who is a Senior Architect for Sales Force convince me that its a great industry to break into for a career.

I do not have any coding, salesforce, or anything related experience. I am tech savvy however and I have got the CBTNUGGETS videos, and a few free guides (i think 1 is the official one that teaches you how to build a recruitment page)

Basically I see that there are 1 week classes that prepare you for the Admin 201 test, but since I am learning on my own I will need to set time aside to study and learn from nothing.

Basically how long should I study, and how much should I learn before attempting the exam? How many "cookbooks" should I master? And is the 201 enought to get a job?

Am looking into get into a low level position to start 40K Yearly at the least and I was told a basic Admin is the place to start.

experience is more important. i'd recommend that along with studying and trying to pass the cert, try to look for non-profits that may need some help. you'll learn a lot faster when you're hands on solving real problems.
