What will happened if the speed of sound is almost the speed of light? Will a catastrophe happen? ![]() ![]() |

if the speeds of two matters r same. i think.. it's going to be very noise. i heard that sound is kind of wave. and the light is either wave, particle or something else.(theorys seem like light is the last one) if the sound wave is that much strong... haha,,, it's kind of harmful. wave is kind of hard concept. at least i think so. it moves only up and down but, it transports the energy from left to right. then, back to the subject, what is going to happen energies of all the sounds on the earth move more than seven times a second? one clap of hands will be heared to everyone on earth. tons of thunders on the earth will tear the eardrums. haha... so far is what i can think right now.. there is another choices.. like if could be like.. the speed of light becomes slow as slow as it of sound. see ya, i am really interested in science. i would see everyone frequently on this forum.

If all you are refering to is the results of sound traveling the same speed as light and no other differences, not much would change. When watching fireworks from a distance, you could hear them explode as you saw it expolde, and you wouldn't think about lightning and thunder as two different things because you would hear and see them at exactly the same time. Really though, traveling through air, you can't make sound go any faster. You would have to find some medium which allows sound to travel faster and slow light down as it travels. Water does this to some effect, but not nearly enough to make their two speeds comparable. |

sound is nothing more than a vibration of air molecules. now if that vibration reached near speed of light, i would have alot of power behind it, more like a shock wave form an explosion, just even more powerfull. Thats all. If the speed of sound was constantly like that on some weird planet, then when if life would evlove on that planet then it would have adapted to it, most likly quiet creatures that live by being quiet.

thank you :Kioko_Uratsuma i am a student in Harvest Christian Academy. and i am a senior yet. i have great amount of interest in Science and mathematic. a little bit in music. i also like to be a..... science related teacher. what i have thought is to be a science or math teacher in senior high school or in college.

if sound traveled as fast as light it would be able to distroy the earth and any other planet ![]() |
Re: What If Speed of Sound......???

Sound is nothing but a propagation of wave in particle medium (air). for sound to travel at the speed of light, the medium particles will have to too, and that will bring us to the oft discussed matter at the speed of light debates. though most likely the universe will be destroyed and all the matter will be converted into energy. whatever... |

good point...if sound really was as fast as light, it may either be super powerful...u probably kill some 1 with the shock wave, or it may be to fast to be heard and we would all would be deaf...

Sound is a wave and it's speed is not constant. Light is both a wave an a particle and it's speed is constant. Proven fact. The speed of sound at sea level with a temp of 72F/22C is 772mph/345msec Since sound needs a physical medium, e.g. a gas or solid, to propigate in, The speed of sound is limited by the density, temp and humidity of that medium. the speed of sound in the air is: Vs=331.4+0.6Tc m/sec Where: Vs = speed of sound. Tc Temp celsius That is a basic calculation and does not take into account changes in atmospheric density, humidity. |
