I suppose you could boil riceballs and inject them with jam. -.-" I'm just guessing though... |

| Well, you have to have Japanese Rice first. They are special coz they are sticky. I don't know what's next. Roll the rice into riceballs then put the black thing they called seaweed? Inject Jam? ^_^' Just ask Japanese people. |

I am pretty certain that, for as long as I have lived, I have never seen a jam filled rice ball. They usually put these sour things in them (can't remember what they are called, but they are sour), and other times they put in fish and stuff, but I have never seen jam being used. I've been all over Tokyo, Chiba, whatever, never seen jam. Anyway, to make a riceball, just roll it up like clay, except don't forget to compress it as you roll it. Rice balls, despite the name, are usually triangular in shape, rarely round. It is easier and less messy if you use saran wrap to mold it, rather than your bare hands, so you don't have to wash the rice off. My mom made these things all the time, and I would bring them to school instead of sandwiches. Ahh... good times... Oh yeah, don't forget to put seaweed on the outside, doesn't matter how much. One purpose is so you don't have to actually get your hands messy while eating it.
The Sarcasm made a whooshing sound as it flew over his head.

My mom makes omusubi with bean paste on the inside! What you do is hold it in your hand flat and put the bean paste in a little ball on top of it, then fold your hand around it and the rice will seal. It's sticky rice, so it's semi permanent after they're folded... and don't leave them in the fridge uncovered, or you will lose teeth... ![]() Diciples of the Greyhound |

here are the ingredients to make omusubi/onigiri: 2 cups uncooked rice pickled plum or whatever you want as a filling salt strips of nori (seaweed) 1. rinse the rice first. pour cold water into the rice cooker (until the "2" on the side of the pot). 2. cook rice. let cooked rice stand for 5-10 min. use a rice wet paddle to mix rice. cover and let stand for few minutes. 3. sprinkle salt onto your clean, moistened hands. scoop 1/4 of rice on the palm of one of your hands. place small filling in center. 4. using both hands, form rice ball into triangular shape. use hands to mold and gently apply pressure as you shape rice ball. 5. apply wide strip of nori around rice ball. 6. enjoy! i think you need some kind of japanese sticky rice for it. got the instructions from my japanese textbook, so don't yell at me if it doesn't come out right!
