looking for anime music with classical feel
Link | by blahdog on 2005-09-07 00:50:15
Hi. I really like the score for Princess Mononoke and like the music used in Giant Robo. I also kind of like Voices from Macross Plus (a rare exception since I often do not like music with lyrics). I really like the operatic approach themes used in this kind of music and was wondering if anyone could help me out and find more music of this nature. Your help is much appreciated.

Thank you. I will give it try.

Anyone else have any suggestions.

EDIT: I just listened to Sadame and the piano version. It fits the description of what I am looking for. Thanks. I really liked the piano version the most. I also liked the piano version of whatever song it was of Princess Mononoke. I really like music that can evoke emotion without any words. Those are the pieces to truly be treasured.

Escaflowne has some great tracks (putting the weird 'ESCA-FLOWNE!' chanting tracks aside ^^; )

Here's my specific recommendations:
Evangelion - Good, or Don't be (listed as Cruel Angel's Thesis piano ver. here)
Escaflowne OST Lovers Again - Deja Blue
3x3 Eyes OVA 2 - Love theme(?)
3x3 Eyes OVA 2 - Gently, thank you ~ Concerto for love
Blue Seed - Matsuri Uta (vocals by Megumi Hayashibara)
Chikyuu Shoujo Arjuna - Early Bird (sounds like latin? short too..)

I highly recommend the 3x3 Eyes themes, so if you can't find it, I can try and upload it www.yousendit.com for you.

..and yes, Sadame is one of the greatest tracks of anime history ^^

Studio Ghibli songs have a sort of classical feel

Kneel Before the Great and Benevolent Cow!

Thanks a lot guys. So far, I like Sadame the best from what I've heard.

I have not been able to find the 3X3 OVA 2 anywhere. But, since you highly recommend it I am dying to hear it.

Lu Bu thank you for the suggestion I have heard most of the Studio Ghibli songs from Joe Hiashi and I would argue that he is almost like a Japanese John Williams. I love his work, most notably the Princess Mononoke soundtrack.

Kaimira I have yet to listen to the songs you suggested but I am sure I will enjoy them. Thank you for taking the time to list those songs.

bill, I really like some of Yoko Kanno's work and Hate as in HATE, some of her other work. I did get a couple of her soundtracks about a year ago and some of her songs really annoyed me while I absouletly loved some of her other music. Some of her works are my all time favorites such as 'Voices' from Macross Plus. I think she is a musicial genius, perhaps the greatest since Mozart. However, whenever I listen to Kanno, I try to use caution as to what I listen to. Nothing personal I just can't stand some of her stuff.

I will try and give 'Brain Powerd' a try. Are there any selections in particular from 'Brain Powered' you would suggest over others. Thanks.

I zipped the 3x3 eyes themes along with Again from Escaflowne OST 3(I mistook it for Deja Blue which was a music box version of the op theme ^^;;) and Matsuri no Uta.

Ouch, thanks for the warning about Yoko Kanno, but I recommend "Sora" from Escaflowne. It has vocals, but I like the mellowness. When it comes to Escaflowne you might also like "Dance of Curse".

Hmm... yeah "Sadame" would've been my first suggestion too. Don't stop there though, because some songs are remixed by orchestra. For example, there's also the piano version of Gundam Seed Destiny's "Ignited". I know lots of game music like Legend of Zelda that are remixed with orchestra. I have a classical version of Gundam Seed's "Anna ni Isshodatta no ni".

If you like classical, what extent does that go to? I mean, only orchestra or even classical guitar would work?

Thanks again guys. Your suggestions have been very good. I liked the 3X3 Eyes, kiryuu-reka. Which is a little surprising. J/K They were really good. I love Eyes Love

Old Man Kai, my likes in classical, perhaps modern classical is more accurate, is primarily orchestra. The guitar is not my favorite instrument to hear, but I will try anything out and who knows I may like it. Thanks for asking.

I am actually about to start listening to game music. I have tried to listen to it in the past but I think I listened to the wrong music. I found most game music to be shallow and unoriginal.

Thanks for your help everyone. Does anyone have any new suggestions?

Lately, I have really liked chain and vision of Escaflowne from the Escaflowne soundtrack.
