File mpga (How do you change it to mp3?)
Link | by Kouji on 2004-08-05 13:50:26
I tried everything and followed some suggestion on different threads but the result is still the same. I discovered in other sites that DAP fixes this solution and opens it as an mp3 file directly on my desktop. The problem is by using normal dl methods, this creates my mpga problem----a little help please from anyone? Oh and after the dl, there are no file extensions to change plus it is saved directly as an mpeg audio...

listen: when you click on the links on my website, you are redirected to an mp3 formatted, mp3 file extended file by my download script. if your browser renames it, or your operating system misunderstands it, IT IS STILL A MP3 FILE!
the bytes in the file are in MP3 FORMAT. any music player, if instructed to properly, will be able to read this file.

Sounds like Windows Explorer is hiding extensions of some files (unfortunately, that is default). If you wish to see the file extension in order to be able to change it, do the following:
In Windows Explorer, click the Tools menu and choose Folder Options, then choose the View tab, and uncheck the box "Hide file extensions for known file types", click OK and the extensions are now visible. To change, highlight the file, hit F2 and change the file name extension.
I've had the problem of the browser appending mpga onto the end of the file automatically before. I think I was using Netscape at the time, and it was the way that the browser handled the html as implemented by the site. I've been using Firefox recently, so I haven't been having that problem for awhile.

just use cmd (dos prompt) to rename it to mp3 file.. or on your explorer.. there's an option for windows on show file extensions
Tools>Foldet Option>View (Tab)>uncheck "Hide extensions for known filetypes"
