If you mean the human race, a combination of (and in no specific order) pollution, war, genetic modification, cloning, artificial intelligence, and just about anything else that is stupid.

The end of the world? It is over-run by yaoi and everyone becomes gay, thus the population dies out.
I heart yaoi.

When I pilot Neo Granzon!!! And swallow the Earth with the Black Hole Cluster!!!

Okay, let's get serious. It's our fate as humans to destroy our own planet. Simply, we've chosen the path of destruction, we destroy ourselves as time goes by. This is because of our intelligence (thanks a lot to Adam and Eve for the fruit) that made our technology grow big. Bigger technology means bigger pollution and more diseases.
When it comes to world destruction, it is clear that we are the cause of it. Even if the sun dies, humans did the most to make it die faster.

It's not Adam and Eve's fault for taking the fruit; it was The Serpent's. But that's beside the point, my apologies.

True, stars last for billions of years, but hasn't our own planet lasted for billions of years also? If we just take the theories of creation (just for the sake of argument), it would imply that it would take billions of years to accumulated that much matter, and more years for it to build up and, go "bang". So, theorically speaking, the stars have lasted for billions of years, and so does the sun.

Scientists have said that the sun's energy won't run out for the next couple millenia or so, that in fact, it's growing hotter. Ever heard of the phrase, "the star that burns twice as bright, burns half as long"? The sun is still a star, and hey, maybe it'll super nova one day.

Another verse from the Bible comes to mind. It says the time is near when the moon is colored blood. Take a look at our moon on the rise, it's tinted orange. Isn't the moon a reflection of the sun's light? So what if that orange hue was the sun's? The next would be... red-orange, then red?

I know, there were a lot of 'what if's and 'let's say's. But I'm just sharing my views here, not to enforce an open debate. Again, I apologize.

global warming is a real threat. It's possible that the end of our planet is caused global warming. And there's even more possibility, we will end our story with world war, and nuclear war.
the death of the sun perhaps takes more than billions years, you know. It is our hands that will destroy ourselves.

and does an apple have anything to do with anything?
wisdom does not destroy. In the wrong head it would be used to destroy.
it is up to us, whether we use the wisdom "we're given" for the sake of righteousness, or we use the for the sake of our own "happiness".

God's in his heaven. All's right with the world.

Anyone knows Gabriel Marcel? ^_^

Well, our Philosophy teacher read us an article that has said we humans have been so successful in transforming our world from one form to another. Meaning, we have elevated our resources to fit our current lifestyle. However, as we consume, we lose track of the fact that these resources are finite. Once we have exhausted all of these, we freeze our world (perhaps literally or figuratively) and one single tragedy will end all of us.

I asked about Marcel because he is the author of "Broken World". It's an article, or more accurately, I think it is a transcript of his speech when he gave a talk in the University of Aberdeen. Try reading it.

If he thought our world has started to show its "brokenness" it may be more apparent now. ^_^

About the apple thing... I think it originated from someone thanking Adam and Eve for partaking the forbidden fruit. And yes, the apple doesn't have anything to do with it. It was never mentioned that the fruit was an apple, it was just that, the forbidden fruit. ^^

Oh, I know where the Apple comes from. However, my objectivist ideals and Ayn Rand-ish philosophies make me...well, opposed to the thought of human rationale as a "bad thing." In other words, I'd much rather be aware of my existence, be aware of good and evil, and possess the ability to reason. Screw paradise. If you can't think, what's that point of living? (Dammit, I still ended up saying it...)

IF it is god's will it could end anytime and not because of resources or anything AND it is not our job to predict this sort of thing
BUT live our lives and be kind to others NEVER lie so that we wont regret it when the world "ends"

A wise man once said to live your life like its going to end the very next day

End of the world? When Koenma finally looses it because Yusuke called him pacifier breath again and he releases all of the portals and demons come flooding in. Of course, the Renkai Tentai will kick all their butts and save the day and hanyou's like me will help as well.

blame the god if you will, even predicting the future is not our JOB, it is natural that human being fears the end of his time, and it is natural for them to anticipate anything that will harm their existence, and the continuation of their life. any life forms will do the same thing, in their own way. it's undisputable.
at least that is what i think.

God's in his heaven. All's right with the world.
