After watching the second episode of Full Metal Panic! TSR, Elfen Lied, and the like.. i was wondering if they censored the nudity/language of Anime in Japan when they are shown on TV.. I mean.. they sure as hell would in America... =/

in japan, you can put anything on tv that doesnt violate the national decency laws: no genital nudity (breasts arent a problem), and no bad words. manko is the only bad word i know of that is actually censored.

hhaah. well, it is very true that their TV is better. my favorite shows in japan were Trivia no Izumi and Before/After.

| today tv already set the "thing" all over world. you can watch it even in america. or you can buy cable. but you must at least 18 ages or up ^_^ |

| Usually the English versions are edited. I don't blame them so much, though. Iknow a lot of these animes are or were at one time shown on adult swim, which is on cartoon network. Wether people like it or not, little kids do manage to stay up late sometimes lol. I'd hate to think of some 3 or 4 year old child hearing rude language and seeing sexually oriented scenes on a network that was supposed to be "safe" for them. lol^.^ I think you can buy unedited things at anime stores, though^.^ If it's really that big a deal to ya^.^ |

1. It's expensive. Not sure of the price, but Japan is an expensive country. 2. Check with the Japanese council. (ambassador) or the passport department. They should provide details 4. Japanese is ESSENTIAL in Japan. You might as well be an illegal alien. ^_^;;; |

Well, my friend told me that if you're American, Japanese people actually approach you and practice their English on you, so I think even a little Japanese will get you by. At least that's what I was told. Anyway, back to the matter at hand, yeah, American tv edits stuff out, even Adult Swim. You're better off buying/watching the dvds. That's why I kinda stopped watching anime on tv. I mean, it's anime but... it's DUBBED/EDITED anime... There are a few exceptions, though... |

Blond hair and blue eyes doesn't mean that they are Americans, and vice versa, speaking English doesn't mean that they're Americans either. You can be American but of say Asian background for all they know. Second, I have lived in Japan for a number of years, and I have never witnessed that. The majority of Japanese people DO NOT jump on "Americans" and practice their English. |

uhhh, looks like living in japan is interesting. but i heard japan is an expensive country to live in. and the kanji, ... uhhh, i think it's so hard to learn kanji don't you think censorship is neccessary? to protect the underaged children from seeing explicit content? except for the adult, there's no problem i think, and censorship will only disturb "the pleasure"?

Japan's really open as compared to Singapore. Chobits anime's rated NC16 here. o.O I can kinda relate given the nature of it, but i think that's a bit far.
