Hmm.. how does sleep learning actually work? And could you possibly memorize a song by just having it go over and over while you sleep, never actually hearing it when awake? Just curious.. =P

my personal opinion is that sleep-learning is a bunch of bullshit. the theory is, you still receive information from your ears while you sleep, but the information is not processed consciously. the information would instead be stored in your long term memory. this is suggested because during sleep, your experiences from the day are "saved" to long term memory. however, i doubt that the neurological pathways are designed so that what you hear is saved along with everything else. if that were the case, then we would all have very vivid memories of bird songs and cricket chirping, because those nighttime noises are what we here for over 1/3 of our cumulative lifetime! me, i cant tell bird songs apart at all :P ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Heheh, talk about sleep-learning.. It reminds me of what I have read in a novel called "Brave New World". Hypnopaedia.. Yeah, I think sleep-learning is a nonsense at all. I mean, how can you remember something that you don't see, feel, or hear in conscious?

Ive tried doent work played it over 400 times and I didn't know any of the words but I can momorize a song normally in listening to it 1-4X
Death is the gift a blade shall bring,
death is the gift a blade shall sing
why is it my life sucks so much I mean it really sucks

Re: Sleep learning...

I learned this in psychology. Really, it IS a bunch of bullshit. And I doubt it would work before the REM stage, since your mind is trying to go UNconscious. But you'll begin to tune out the words you're listening to as you near the deep sleep period, which lasts about 90 minutes. So you basically just missed an important chunk of info... But that's just what I learned... |

Sleep learning works to a certain extent. You memorize everything you hear, but can't recall it all conscientiously. This is a real flaw with the brain that must be worked out by evolution. If you hear something in your sleep, it's stored in your brain, you just can't "remember" it. |

Leaving a CD on repeat helps me get to sleep, and I haven't memorized anything any faster than usual. Sometimes, though, I will half-wake up, but still be dreaming and a song that is playing will work its way into my dream and really mess my dream up.

hmm.. interesting topic. anyone read "flowers for algernon"? the main character sleeps in front of a tv which is on throughout the whole night and bingo, he became smart after that. i dont know if that is called sleep learning..or was i mistaken about the text? by the way, sometimes when my alarm clock ring, i hear it in my dream and even dreamt that it's there.
Hey! How ya know that i am nuts!!!!

Re: Sleep learning...

In "Flowers for Algernon" some scientists perform a brain operation on a mentally challenged man (Charlie) and it increases his IQ by a whole bunch. Unfortunately they didn't wait to see the long term effects of the operation when it was performed on a mouse, and the mouse slowly becomes stupider and dies. The mouse (Algernon) was Charlie's best friend. Charlie realizes he will have the same fate as the mouse and goes to a cottage in the woods to die in peace.

Here's a useful tip. I'm an actor and I need to memorize millions of scripts, so what do I do? I read through my parts before I go to sleep about, 10 times, then I go directly to sleep, the next morning I wake up, I repeat it about 10 times immediately. Your brain will retain the information easier. Ofcourse, this is in addition to the normal rehersals. ![]() I'll eat you. |
Re: Sleep learning...

well, i read a science news about it and it kinda verifies the fact that sleeping enhances the brain's memory capabilities. In the contrary, though, i heard that too much sleep damages the brain for some reason^^ oh, well... |
