I have to say, I have been 'Mangatized'...

First off, before I begin, I'd like to formally introduce myself. I am Samurai Squirrel, a new otaku to these parts, who has come to grace you all with my wonderful presence... *Silence... someone snickers in the background!* Hey! I heard that! Anyway, I love writing poetry and am always willing to find critics (if you are interested, give me a holler). I also enjoy anime, RPGs, reading, sleeping (who doesn't?), acting, singing (especially in the shower--something about the acoustics and the water...), J-pop and anime music, and now... reading manga. Let me start by saying, I never really gave much thought to manga. Heck, I really had no desire to read any. I really don't know why actually. Still, I loved anime and I would literally drool over upcoming shiny DVDs that I couldn't wait to get my grubby, 'unworthy' hands on and fanatically worship them and then finally watch them upon getting home. That is... that interest was sparked one day. It all started when I had a Spongebob Waldenbooks giftcard for $30. Excited that I could finally get my hands on some paper and fresh ink in a entertaining and possibly educating bundle, I made haste to my nearest Waldenbooks. When waltzing calmly into the store, I saw that they had just rearranged the store with manga, spread across four massive shelves, the front. That's when the otaku hormones kicked in. In a flash, I was over there looking at the vibrant, fresh smelling ink of Japanese goodness. The first one that really allowed my eyes to leap in unprecidented joy was a manga by the title of 'Immortal Rain'. So, without further ado, I grabbed it up and another manga called 'Tsubasa' and paid. Finally, after the torturous journey home, I sat down in my room and began to read my new books. I started with Tsubasa and I got into it quickly. Two and a half hours later, I finished that entertaining and delightful story, only soured by the rather sudden and uneventful ending. The day went past and just before going to bed, I decided to being 'Immortal Rain' and I couldn't put it down! I made myself quit after the first chapter since I was needing to go to bed. I spent today reading the wonderful book and, after a total of about four hours of reading (I like to look at every detail) I must say... I WANT MORE! I MUST HAVE MORE!! MORE I SAY!!!! *Several people suddenly surround me. One appears to be a doctor. Saying something about being behind on medication, he carefully shoves a small pill down Samurai Squirrel's throat.* Thanks doc... Anyway, I am now hooked! Too bad, it won't be until Monday till I have a chance to go back to that sacred place of divinity. There I can requited of my newfound love for manga. Sadly, the next 'Immortal Rain' will not be out until August 3 (Ah.. the anticipation...) I will have to make do with another tasty form of artbook they call... manga. Did I forget to mention I am a bit insane...? |

I enjoyed reading your story, keep up the writing! Gendou also offers free journals (blogs) here, which would be more suited for your form of writing and story telling. ^^ edit: the above mentioned service is currently offline.

Well, my local Waldenbooks has about 20 shelves of manga (four section of shelves apiece)... there is actually a relatively high demand for manga in my area and that is like the only place to get it, so they have to keep a rather large stock... |

Two things that caught my attention other than my love and joy for Anime: POETRY and MUSIC. Just wanted to let you know I also enjoy poetry. |

Welcome to the cult of MANGA! Your $30 initiation fee has been processed and you have been given the gift of "Tsubasa" and "Immortal Rain" in exchange. Treasure these always, and help spread the word. More importantly, purchase and read as much as you can. Kidding! I think our admin might get in trouble for "cult." |
