Wondering about Saikano

I was thinkg of geting Saikano as a summer series to watch. Has anybody seen it already and if so how is it?  |

| Saikano is a drama/love story, if you're into that kind of genre you should get it. I'd put it into the same category as Someday's Dreamers and/or Ai Yori Aoshi. It's the better of the two yet i'm not a real fan of anime love stories. I've watched only the 1st disc yet decided not to continue. I'm more into Kino's Journey and Naruto. Only my opinion. |

| I think Saikano is one of the better animes out there. Too bad it's only 13 episodes! ;__; A very cute love story! ^^ Shuji and Chise endure and go through so much just to be together. However, Saikano is also one of the most depressing series I have ever seen! The one thing I can complain about this anime is the lack of character background. I have no idea how Chise came to be, although they did mention it a little in the anime. There are still so many unanswered questions by the time you reach the last episode. But, I won't spoil it! Other than that I totally recommend this one because it teaches you many life lesson about struggling through war! ^___^ Hope this helps! |

If you're into drama/love series you should maybe also check out Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien (14eps). I was pleasantly surprised and it got me totally hooked!

| with Zelle. It is a wonderful anime but there is little to no information on Chise's background but it didn't make the anime any less interesting. If the anime was 26 episodes they would have probally developed her story more. Even introduced her family. But if you do decide to watch it, watch it alone and with a handkerchief. Repeat to yourself, i will not cry, i will not cry. |

Aethylla-NO WAY can you compare this story to Ai Yori Aoshi at all. It's completely different. Saikano is a REAL romance story, not a romantic comedy. Netstryke-if you enjoyed Haibane Renmei (it's my favorite anime) you will definitely enjoy Saikano. By the way, the absence of any explanation for how Chise became an "Ultimate Weapon" and how the war began is pretty much something that seems to be common in Japanese storytelling. They remove those elements so the only thing you have left to focus on is the character development, which is what they want you to look at. If you got too intrigued by the war or how Chise became a weapon, you might think of Saikano as a war story or a sci-fi anime. It is, however, very clearly meant to be a tragic love story. It's just like in Now and Then Here and There...the mechanical designs are goofy and they never explain how that cannon or Hellywood operates very well, because Akitaroh Daichi did not want sci-fi freaks obsessing over the technical details...he wanted Now and Then Here and There to be a character-driven story, and by leaving out certain details he was able to force the audience to focus on that aspect of the show and to appreciate it more. I think it's actually a very nice storytelling technique. |

Saikano....ahhh......such a good romance story. Although Chise and Shuji's issues with each other are a little confusing at times, I think that it is a real romance story. It's so sad how every character gets their own little death scene. I especially liked Akemi's death scene. I cried like a baby! X0  "When life gives you lemons, shut up and eat your stupid lemons." |
