Not really a rule violation, but a request for one

I don't think there's anything that forbids necroposting. Can there be one? |

I'm going to have to agree with Temp here; this is something that's been on my mind lately. This wasn't a problem before but certain users have been reviving 3+ year old threads more and more lately. Necroposting on most other forums is against the rules. The ship sailed long ago, which is why those topics are dead. When users necropost, it floods the forum and makes things more cluttered, burying the active threads. It's annoying have to search through 3 pages of a certain forum just to reach a topic that was posted in just a day ago because the site got flooded in a single night by a single user. If people want to be able to discuss something, that's an entirely different story, but most of these threads are mostly "favorite song," "favorite anime:" they're all one liners and serve no purpose except to bolster post count. |

A rule will not be made, sorry to say, but what CAN be done is that you can talk to the users that do such things and express your concerns for it. The most we can do is tell them that necroposting doesn't do much, but we can't outright stop them from doing it. Old threads will not be locked, and necroposts will not be deleted. I apologize for any inconvenience. ![]() |

I can't say I'm satisfied by your response. Is there any reason why the site can't do this? Any explanation is better than "nope, can't do it, deal with it". |

It is because there is no reason for such a rule to exist. Forums are not as active as they used to be, so one or two people necroposting every so often doesn't really affect anyone but for one day. If forums were extremely active, such a rule might be good, but as it stands currently, forums are not very active at all. I know you're not satisfied with my response, but honestly, that's just how it is. I understand that looking for threads that should be on the first page that aren't is annoying, but it doesn't happen often enough to be made into a rule. ![]() |
