What IS a waste of time?

Seriously, to some people it is one thing, and others another. What is a waste of time? Are there certain things that make something a waste of time? Is it even POSSIBLE for something to be a waste of time? The whole concept confuses me. I would appreciate it if you would help. |

Alright. Hmm...... Dear SaphireISLunaria....... Truth is relative, yet it is not. The statement may suggest -in the person's mind- a paradox. However, if we ponder upon it for some time, it does not. You see, whenever I philosophize, I always make sure that I follow some principles to help establish structure into my opinion. I also make sure that I am able to distinguish or make distinct the concepts, ideas, facts etc. and to also provide as many viewpoints as possible with as minimal bias as possible. References and trust-worthy, proven sources are of utmost importance. The sources are to make sure that certain things are researchable and that it allows people to falsify the opinion and its contents. Non-falsifiable things are a problem and it can hamper one's ability to understand a certain thing, but of course, as always, it depends on the situation and so on. Now that I have mentioned my techniques, I will provide a starting answer to your question. There are two categories for (THE PERCEPTION/BELIEVE ON WHAT CONSTITUTES 'A WASTE OF TIME'). One: The 'objective' sense. There are certain ideas relative to the variables that constitute the meaning of the phrase 'A WASTE OF TIME'. Sometimes, the variables can be excluded. What I am trying to say is, is that there are certain things that most humans 'sub-consciously/consciously' comprehend as 'A WASTE OF TIME'. For example, neglecting one's duties and opting for other activities. Two: The 'subjective' sense. I.E certain things are comprehended to be 'A WASTE OF TIME' if the activity is not within the person's interests. For example, I consider talking incessantly to be 'A WASTE OF TIME' for I have duties to fulfill and various other reasons. BTW, I can also understand your 'POSSIBLE' statement differently. It is -in my opinion- more of the existential role of time. (I don't really know how to phrase this but I understand what I understand.) Well, time continues to move. It doesn't stop according to the the laws within this 'reality'. It is an impossibility for time to even stop within this reality. (VIDEO GAMES and VIDEOS ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM WHAT WE ARE DISCUSSING.) No matter how much we wish, it just won't stop. In my limited understanding, (more research is what I certainly wish for) time is relative to the area; some other variables also make time relative. As I have made clear, the reason why this is short and not comprehensive is to help you start to understand things better, albeit now with a structural basis to further one's understanding. I think that a waste a time is when you spend your time too much for doing pointless things or thinking too much things that won't give any benefit to you or others   |

nothing is wasted, if you do something waste, at least it makes you know that what you do is wasting time hahaha. i agree with Sharelle-san. you got to use your time wisely. time waits for nobody

The only thing that is a waste of time is something that you believe is a waste of time. If you believe that you are doing something, anything, that you believe is worthwhile, then that shouldn't be considered as a waste of time. Then again, time is wasted when you think too much about things instead of just doing them, like what Zero and Sharelle said a few posts ago. I know I have this problem, and it's annoying when you just want to do something but you don't have the confidence in yourself or can't bring yourself to do it. Then you just waste your time thinking or doing things that have little to no meaning to them, and you could end up regretting not doing anything. That can be considered as a waste of time as well.  |

So long as you do what you want then you won't "waste time" even if you sit around staring into space for 5 hours, so long as you enjoy it while its happening, you aren't wasting time.

For me,not able to do anything you want to do is a "waste of time".There's a lot of things waiting to be discovered by us.Of course,neither do getting sick as well.Like they said,time is money.Use it wisely,like you use your money.And do rest up now and then,given the chance after a hard work. |

well, for that question, first you have to define/answer these questions: 1. What is waste/wasting? how do you define it in this term? 2. What is your concept of time? what do you think as time and it's characteristics? then, ask: can the two of them correlate? if (yes) { what is their correlations? the answer is the meaning of waste of time. } else { there's no such thing as waste of time }  |
