Okay, this situation is taken from ADOM, a question at character generation. Your king is dying. Your forces has lost. The king asks you how did the battle end. What do you do? In the game options were: Tell that you won/Tell the truth/"Come on, die already, I need your crown" Pretty simple question. Basically, painful truth or sweet lie. In my case I'd tell the truth. |

Hmmmm......... We've gotta admit that as humans, we LIE; usually to get us out of a small pinch and sometimes a big one. I mean, I lie to but usually for small fry. Of course, as we become better we lie less. Regarding the situation, I'd rather tell the truth. The hard part is how to regroup since our forces being depleted. Now then, regarding the King's reactions, I mean, if the king's forces were few and we lost then that's a given; however, if we were large and strong, then of course that would've been painful. In any case, the final reaction of the king comes down to the size, morale, discipline, selflessness and skill of the army. Of course, I am not free of having to explain my actions throughout the battle and the actions leading to it. |

"Come on, die already, I need your crown" Is the obvious win choice. xD But seriously, I'd be leaning towards truth. It's kind of common sense that we can't see exactly how much time they have left on them (*cough*Death Note) so who's to say that they might not continue living for a minute or two afterwards and order a messenger to spread the word of celebration. I'm sure everybody (or whoever's left) would wonder what the King was on. It would probably be better to die with the truth, regardless of his reaction, rather than possibly looking foolish to his people. Another reason would be that I prefer truth myself rather than an ending with lies, regardless of how bad the truth is or how good the lies will make one feel. Simple as that. And just a random note, I wonder how much a dying king would change his soldier's morale. I wouldn't expect my troops to be at their best if they knew that their leader was in that condition. |

Being the atheist that I am, no ill effects will come from lying to him so why not give him a sense of accomplishment and happiness in his last moments? Even if he does get to a messenger before he dies, that's only one other person who has to lie for the sake of the king's last minutes of happiness.

What I meant to point out was that before you noticed things may get out of control. It's always possible. I see your point, but how do you know that the messenger wasn't just a total tool and did whatever without really analyzing the situation and all that? It could happen, since nothing else was specified. I've also thought that he may be able to see through it if he was godly at reading people. It's also possible that someone else may tell him the truth if I lie, which could turn out pretty bad if he's one of those angry kings and orders everyone to kill me. xD |

If I care about the king and have feelings for him....I would definitely lie and tell him we won...a little white lies for a precious one |

I would tell the truth. He is the king, and should be able to handle it. Since he is dying, he has the choice to either give up or keep fighting, both for his life and for the army. If he knows that the army is loosing, he has something to fight for, but if they win then he would just die accomplished. You don't know what effect the fight has on him, but you do know that he is aware of the possibility of loss simply because he had to ask you. |

I always tell the truth >_<... in fact, in most of the games I play, I feel like telling the truth even if it means losing ._. |
