pride and hate

The following is something I wrote for class, it's something I have been thinking about for a while, but never written about until now, please tell me what you agree/disagree with, its just a bit of a concept at the moment so constructuve critisism would be nice. The majority of violence found on this earth stems from one place. The soil in which this seed of violence grows may seem innocent, but it can be deadly and should be regarded as such. I am talking of pride. Pride, deceptively, is the main source of violence and hate, without pride there is no reason for a person to take up arms against another without provocation. Pride is the concept that the self is better than another, or that one ideal is correct and another is wrong. One common, yet extreme, example of this is the actions of Adolf Hitler. Hitler was immensely proud of his “master race†a pure race, better than any other. From this idea, that the master race is perfect, and everyone else is inferior, the seed of violence and hate grew, to the point where the killing of millions seemed reasonable, lives that could have been saved if not for pride. To relate this to more modern problems, the conflict in the middle east is also fueled by pride. Both side of the conflict believe they have the right to the land currently divided into Israel and Palestine. The believe that they each are the chosen people of G-d, more deserving than the other side. Without this pride there would be no conflict, no fighting. The true path to pacifism lies in the abandonment of pride and the realization that you as an individual have nothing to be proud of, not in the sense that no one is important, but that no one is more important than anyone else. |

Hi there. Well, I'd like to post my thoughts despite the fact that the it doesn't seem to be alive. I can understand what you're trying to say from that small conceptual essay. Hitler to begin with was an ordinary chap. He was just envious that's all. Later, to escape the past, he you know, from the World War 1 trenches to his "SUPPOSED" death... (The topic regarding Hitler's death and his remains is controversial) I kinda pity the guy. Well, come tuh' think of it, something very similar happened to someone I know. To tell you the truth, philosophies like this are best written or said in large essays or speeches, not small bite-sized chunks since you'd need to to make it thorough in order for the 'common mess' to understand. Anyways, I think you actually have more to say, just that we tend to keep it short due to time constraints or possibly just that the other party doesn't bore to death or just that we just don't know how to say it or explain it since people think differently and understand things differently. Come to think of it, we really are TOO concerned for other people's psyches, though this usually applies to simple-minded people. Furthermore, it is unnatural to try to force certain opinions on to others, something that most people in the government or the religious people do (Though not all of them are from that archetype). In fact, I belive that a NON-BIASED approach to things would be best. I believe that you would require several of it. In addition, humans tend to have a tendency to remember the last thing they did the most; in this case the last sentence or word or any other ones as long as it is a significant enough of a stimulus to begin with. Well, those are just my thoughts on this. I like history and getting historical facts correct is most important as well as the NON-BIASED approach. What I saw was a mere fraction of Hitler's life. In any case, you're writing something for reasons unknown to me as well as the style as you're supposed to be writing it in. Till then, BYE! :) |
