quick question on reading dates?
Link | by on 2010-09-13 23:40:29
Hi~. I went to a Japanese excursion today, and they had this quiz thing. The section was 'Calendar', and a card was pulled out. It read:

十一月
十八日

I was the first to press the buzzer. I said 'juuichi gatsu juu youka.'

But I was told it was wrong (by a Japanese person!) and that it was Juuichi Gatsu Juu Hachi Nichi.

Can anyone please clarify why I was incorrect? I thought that yokka and youka were consistent the whole way through the days?...

Thankyou!

I think I just forgot that, thats all... I asked another Japanese, and she said that you dont really use it either.

I felt so stupid considering Ive been studying japanese for quite some time.
