How do y'all organize your musics?
Link | by on 2010-07-17 22:56:28
Lately, I've been organizing my iTunes (since I play my tunes off my iPod) and well I've been wondering what you all to with your Japanese and English musics?

Personally, I like to separate my English from anything Japanese-related. My brain can't understand what in the world is going on if I finish listening to seven minutes of Stairway to Heaven and the opening of Lucky Star blasts right after.

So basically, in iTunes, I give all of my Japanese songs the genre "Anime" then make a smart playlist that adds all the songs with "Anime" as their genre to it. I've got my iPod set to sync specific playlists, so I just sync up with the Anime playlist. (I've noticed lately that you can actually sync entire genres themselves instead of just playlists) Anyway, I also have all my English music in a playlist and sync that, too.

And viola, no Motteke Sailor Fuku after Led Zeppelin, though maybe I've taken this a little too far?

I basically use/have six total playlists and I keep my music in three main music folders.
I have two for my iPod (used to have one and share another main playlist).
I have the two playlists for my iPod: one for American/english music and the other is my Japanese/Korean folder.

I have the main American/english folder and the main Japanese/Korean folder.
I also have a Japanese/Korean singles folder (e.g. anime music pretty much).
My last folder is a Japanese/Korean Radio playlist where I can stream stuff Internationally (live radio, even though it might not be live ;P).

Pretty much songs that I download from Gendou whenever I do dL here, I put in the singles folder.
I have my iPod Touch sync up to both the iPod folders, and the singles folder,
though I might have less-er music on it in the future since I'm starting to use more apps on my iPod Touch.

But yeah, a total of six playlists, two of my iPod specifically, one that I mainly use that I also sync with the iPod,
and three others I use mainly for everyday relaxation, streaming, etc.
I even put singles albums releases, in the main Japanese/Korean playlist as well and I organize things accordingly.

I think it's stupid when people don't have the slightest organization for any of their files really, especially music.
Why mix something in two different languages together at all in the first place?

I also don't rename the genre or anything, that's too time consuming.
The point of that is simply making a playlist anyways, so why bother doing all the work unless you want everything to be perfect.

The tabs or choices or whatever you call them, I use on iTunes are the number (song in playlist),
the song title, time length of the song, artist, album, and plays. Ratings is pretty pointless, anything else is whatever.

I do a pretty good job organizing my music/bands/genres together too in said playlists.
For example, it's common sense to have the same artist, by album, together,
and I'm someone who can whore out artist's discographies. XD

I also try to separate the Japanese/Korean playlist into two halves, top Japanese, bottom for Korean.

Overall, it's pretty organized, and I export often after dLing large sets of music.
I'll probably start backing up entirely every month, regardless of using a Mac, it's always safe to be sure.

I've been using Zune to organize my stuff...

English music, since i never listen to it, gets combined into one album and goes onto my external hardrive >_>

all of my japanese/korean music is in one folder on my computer, with subfolders for the artist or anime the song belongs to. After i add music to my collection i have to go through it and make sure all the titles are romanized because my Zune doesn't recognize asian characters... suffice it to say google translate gets a heck of a lot of use >_<

On the program, Japanese/Korean music has one album per artist, (e.g. one for 12012, one for Ellegarden, one for Nightmare etc.) I don't keep track to which songs come from which album though, nor do i really care about the genres...

If there is an anime song that doesn't fit into any of my artist albums, they get their own anime album, provided there are enough songs from that anime (e.g. one for Fairy Tail, one for Durarara etc...)
OST's also get their own album even if the artist is the same

then to keep track of which songs go to which anime, i have a playlist per anime i have music from.

Finally random anime that i haven't watched or songs which i don't have the artist's discography go into a random music folder

I used to have all these in one giant anime album and everything arranged by playlist but i had to break it up since my collection got super huge DX not to mention more albums = more album art which is much prettier to look at ^_^

I use iTunes as well, but i don't seperate music or anything. I usually only make playlists when I have new songs and I only want to listen to those songs at the moment. Otherwise, everything is my library together, English and Japanese alike.

I manage my ipod manually so i dont tell it to sync this, and sync that. I just do it manually I find it much easier to do it that way. You have more capabilities and you have more options when you edit it manually.

[@Luv] Hey that's pretty sweet. It's almost like the iTunes Store or something, for Zune. XD

Wow, believe it or not, but this is the first time I've heard about Zune. Isn't that like an MP3 player?

I just dump in everything in one music folder. yes, that's not organising, but i somehow remember better that way. I am too lazy to organise my albums and stuffs. XD

Zune is like the mircosoft version of the ipod... I sorta got fed up with apple's itunes... way too inflexible and not really "user-friendly"

Zune allows you to sync a device to multiple computers, share music wirelessly between zunes and you can set it to automatically update and sync new music in specific albums or playlists ^_^ That last feature is awesome since i always am adding new songs into various albums as they come out so i can never remember to sync it all manually XP

unfortunatly it sorta went under in canada but i think its still being sold throughout the states and other parts of the world >_>

My Zune program does it for me, so I don't have to.

1. i save it in different files named according to the month it's dloaded.

2. i prepared an excel worksheet listing all the song titles together with it's artist and anime title :3 (if i had accidentally deleted that song i can still check)

[@Luv] Actually, with iTunes, it can do all of those things you claim Zune capable of doing,
and with the new iTunes 9, it's going to open up new doors and have new features in the near future.

As of an actual mp3 player, nothing stands a chance against an iPod. Zunes are pretty much non-existent against iPods/iTouches.

@ DA
Ah true i'll accept that itunes has a lot of the same features, and the hold on the mp3 market they have is proof of that
However until ipod starts encouraging more flexibility with the software, I think i'll avoid apple all together -_- it really kicked me that i couldn't sync my ipod to more then one computer >_< where as zune allows you to sync to muliple computers and share music between them. Although I think the new itunes is going to increase the flexibility a bit >_>
Also zune has been around for a fraction of the ipod history and it's already given apple enough scare to make very stupid lawsuits against zune (concerning the above feature) in canada, thus discontinuing Canadian production. All of this considering apple has so much advertising going for them while zune has none is pretty impressive.

I'm fairly biased though since my experience with itunes was a really bad one... and now that i finally have my music, videos and pictures organized with zune, I doubt i'll be switching anytime soon (unless an ipod with more then 120 gigs comes out)

edit:
lol i would buy one bigger then 120 gigs... i need one since mines pretty much full now T_T I travel a lot and thus i keep a lot of anime series and podcasts on there, i can watch something like 30-ish episodes in just one day of travel so i need the extra space. Also i have no money to buy both a mp3 player and a netbook, its cheaper just to buy an mp3 with larger storage

I'm no expert in either zune or ipod, i just hate any apple-hype XD Heres a year old article i found a while back, the comments pretty much continue the whole zune vs ipod debate:
Zune HD vs Ipod Touch

Well like I just said, iTunes 9 will open new doors and have new features in the very near future.
Also, iTunes is capable of syncing multiple computers together,
and with Home Sharing, you can also cross-share purchased content as well, such as apps.
You're already able to sync to multiple computers with iTunes (since iTunes 7).

And you think Apple is scared of Zunes? Their company, their market, their anything, has nothing on Apple's iTunes/iPod/etc., let alone the company itself.
Apple dominates multiple companies together, concerning electronics.
I admit I don't like some things Apple reveals to the public, and they don't make the best decisions all the time,
but their company is a serious one and if you dare challenge them in anything, they will definitely bring the fight to you.

Apple is not the only company that uses advertisement to help build company image, that's what a business is,
and Apple's been successful doing so for decades, and much more decades to come.
If Zune wants to compete, then they should re-build their inventions and go back to the drawing board.

Also nobody's going to make a damn 120 GB iPod let alone buy something that large. That's idiotic...
Nobody listens to that much music on-the-go, let alone a 32 GB iTouch.
If you want that, then just carry around a netbook or something.

iPods are fun as it is, but iTouches blow the Zune completely away in any way, shape, and form,
and the new OS just crushes that even more. I mean who these days, doesn't have an iPod or iTouch?
As for the media player itself, anyone can use whatever they want. The argument between a media player/mp3 player are two different ones.

I have basically five playlists: my anime playlist, which starts with a bunch of opening themes then goes through to songs used in the animes themselves and then to the ending themes.
The second playlist is my Frank Klepacki playlist, where I put my favorite songs by him in order from best to not-so-great. :P
Third playlist is my Caramell playlist, with all the songs by Caramell in no particular order.
Then the fourth one is my Star Wars/Harry Potter/whatever other soundtracks that are not anime playlist. It also contains my game soundtracks, such as C&C Generals and Battlefield, as well as a few more.
Then the fifth one is my MAXIMUM THE HORMONE playlist. Pretty self-explanitory.
Any song that doesnt fit a category (Soundtrack, Anime, Pop, or Metal/Punk) goes into a sixth one.

Four Playlists:

Non-Anime Music
All Anime Music
Favorite Anime Music
New Anime Music

I make sure all my non Anime music ends up in the right playlist by setting the "Group" on iTunes to Anime and the "Smart Playlist" keeps everything in that group out.

Edit: LOL I just realized my method is exactly the same as yours!

@ Haruka: Ahaha, noiice. Mine's kind of reversed actually! I have a Favorite, All, and "New (well, what I like listening to at the moment)" playlist for my English muzics. I just have a general "ANIME" music playlist, heheh.

@ DA: When I was growing (still am, lol,) when someone said MP3, everyone would think of iPod.

iTunes is the only thing you can sync up your iPod with right? I vaguely remember Winamp being able to do some kind of hookup with my iPod back when I used it on my PC for some time.

Speaking of media players, does anyone still use Windows Media Player? Last time I used it, it was like Media Player 9 or something like that.

EDIT:

@Kazuma: Oh lol! I have a Star Wars playlist, too!

Only listen to anime songs, so... everything in 1 folder, sorted according to when I downloaded them.

Humans are just robots with limited flexibility.

I have a lot of playlists created in wmp. For anime, i have five playlists created. They are anime, anime2, anime instrumental, band, sani.

Anime- all the anime songs
anime2- filter out all the nice songs and rate it accordingly. (main playlist for listening to music)
anime instrumental- all non-vocal anime songs
band- all the anime rock band songs like k-on, angel beats, etc.
sani - filter out all 3stars -5star songs and put it in my mp3 player.

Hmm... Maybe i will create an emo playlist for those super sad songs too.(like last regrets from the anime kanon)

Do wad u think is right, accept your past..............

[@Ciddy] I think you can sync it with anything as it's a media player,
but I think in terms of music, iTunes would be your best choice, especially with an Apple product like an iPod/iTouch.
