Unlike Morse code, this code has no on/off state. The information is encoded in the time between events. The events can be a beep, chime, bell, tap, snap, clap, thwack, etc. |

Ah, then I am on the right track... I assume that the message is repeating after some time frame? |

Yes, it's being broadcast from the server in real time, so when you tune in, you're bound to be somewhere in the middle. The very long pause marks the end of the message, after which it repeats. Ignoring white space, the message is 41 letters long. |

The bells are throwing me off. I'm so close. |

Just so I can put my mind at ease, would network delay cause any errors in the message? Say, if my network got really slow in the middle of the message then got faster, would this mess it up? -Just fishing for something to shed some sense on my "results." |

Yeah, that's a possibility. I've tried it from my home connection a couple times and it seems clear enough. Remember to drop the Z and not the K! |

anders920, for this puzzle, you will want to listen to the bells. They chime in groups of 1 to 5. You will notice when it begins to repeat. Once you have the whole sequences, examine the number of groups. Remember that the message is 41 letters long. What do you notice? |

Well, part of the challenge is figuring out how to connect to gendou.com on port 5959! I will give you a hint: you can use PUTTY for windows, or Terminal for a Mac. |

Notice the pattern in the timing of the chimes. |

After you get the top 10 on the scoreboard can you explain what exactly these ports are. I'm guessing that they are different 'nodes' for connecting to gendou but I would absolutely love an explaination for what exactly is going on. I am really interested in what you are doing. |

The port number has nothing to do with the puzzle. In this challenge, I use a persistent socket connection to avoid sending the encoded information in a digitally recoverable form. The information is encoded in the amount of time between beeps. In this form, the easiest means of processing the information is with the human ear, which I think is cool! |

I managed to connect to gendou.com on port 5959, but I don't get any sounds, only dots... What am I doing wrong? Or what am I supposed to do? |

Try to find settings to enable the terminal "bell". Failing that, you can use your eyes to time the interval between dots. |
