Downloads and Dl. Accelerator Settings question
Link | by Gal on 2005-06-18 04:16:43
For example when i want to queue many files for download in a download accelerator and put the dl parameters at one file at a time and also one connection per file. Is this also a violation of rules??

Probably gendou-san will say something like this =P

READ THIS FIRST (espacially 2nd line...)

http://gendou.com/legal.php

Behold the possibilities ! The end is merely the start of a new history !

thankfully, I read up before looking around. This should be stickied or something for newcomers to read up on.

Is wget (command line program for downloading on *nix, doesn't "accelerate" by threading) legal? The mplayer plugin I use to play movies tries to stream it, so I have to stop the download after being redirected by the PHP script and when it starts streaming and copy the URL into the command line to download manually via wget, and I can't figure out how to disable streaming of MP3s.

*Nevermind, "right click, save as" works- problem is the filename is always dl.php- perhaps it would be useful to use mod_rewrite to have the URL in the format of dl.php/id_xxx/code_xxx/user_xxx/xxx.mp3 ?

Also, the fact that this is possible since the "real URL" is visible seems like a security risk which could be abused for hotlinking :/. Not sure if other browser plugins have this problem (I think it violates RFC 2616). I don't think the mplayer plugin is available for non x86 *nix platforms though.

you mention a security risk even though it is really quite the opposite.
the hard link is protected from novice users because they see the dl.php link. this .php file has security built in that helps me track hotlinkers.

as i am sure you are aware, most of my mp3 files are not hosted on gendou.com. those few that are hosted on-site are in a directory that is moved about, rendering even the hard-links useless to hotlinkers.
:D

Oops. Hmm.. I was using a Download Accelerator for an mp3, and testing to see if using those links (IE, not a direct download) would increase my "Download: xxx", limit. Seems like it didn't.

Then I decided to ask if it was okay... did a search first, and found this thread, and saw the "Legals" page.

Well, other than being sorry of bumping an old thread (Which seems useful anyway), I'ma gonna be lazy and apologize here.

=) Thanks for your time Help forum =P.
