Holograms are real. The bird on a Visa credit card is a hologram. Go to the dollar store and you can probably find holographic stickers. Now as for the science fiction hologram (to which you are obviously referring), this can be done (and I think it has been done) but it is not very logical. For you to be able to see light it has to be directed towards your eye. So to see a "floating" hologram, the light either has to originate at the hologram (not possible) or there has to be smoke or dust in the air for the light to reflect off of after leaving the source. So a science fiction-y hologram can be made, but it would probably need tons of lasers, enclosure on at least 3 sides, and a smoke or mist machine. Which means, EXPENSIVE. You won't be seeing Holomark greeting cards any time in the near future.

Holograms are definitely real! also i totally agree with @angel_of_stone on the Credit card thing i also think with the right methods holograms (the sci-fi ones) can be made possible to use but it would probably take time, and we might not be able to experience it //sigh// |
