Macs (Apple)
Link | by devils-angel on 2009-11-01 11:21:42
Don't really care if this becomes the main Apple thread with iPods and everything iRelated,
though there should be a thread to discuss topics about 'em.

Haven't checked out the new line-up yet, but some of my friends say it's kind of cool.
The new mouse they have now is similar to the Macbook trackers, and it seems pretty awesome.

Planning on getting an iMac in the future, and handing down my PC to my sister (my PC's still awesome, don't get me wrong).

Anybody else here use any of the Macs? It'll still be a while until I fully pimp out my Macboook (13"),
because I have soooo many different files on my PC, including my music,
which I'd rather play on my PC speakers because the Macbook volume isn't very loud at all.

My one friend "dual wields" (duel monitor) his Macbook and I thought about that with mine.
I barely use my Macbook though, my parents were surprised I kept my PC with my Macbook when we bought it,
but eventually I'm going to switch over and hopefully purchase the iMAc on my own with my own money.

I'm still reading info on the Macs, like viruses and whatnot, but for now I haven't done anything on my PC on my Macbook yet, so yeah no issues.

Whoa, you really did make a new thread O.o

It's been a couple of years since Macs has been using Core 2 Duo but from what I've said in the 'Other' section (desktop screenies thread), Apple is gonna incorporate the Intel Core i5 and i7 in their new line up. When? Not sure, but there were some who said it'll be introduce in the first quarter next year. How much? Not announced yet, but I'm hoping it'll be around the same price with the current Macs.

I've saw the new iMac 27" the other day with Core i7. Good God, I loved the feel of it. Still have no idea how to use the Magic Mouse though. From what I know MacBooks will come with Core i5 for all its line up and there's an option for Core i7 for the 17" MacBook Pro if I'm not wrong. But hey, one thing I know I'm not buying a MacBook Pro now, waiting till Core i5 line ups come out.

I have a mac book that my school got from Lowes corporate. They have been given out to every kid in my public high school, which is pretty awesome! I like them but that is not the common feeling at my school. I think it's become most of the kids don't really want to take the time to learn the software, or because they just get tired of the school blockers; and they are annoying.

I really like how user friendly mac is, and I LOVE the fact that I can have photoshop and illustrator open at the same time and it wont crash! If I even try to have firefox, word and paint open at the same time on my PC the thing goes bananas. I also like the fancy graphics, I know they're useless but they make me happy. When they tried to make windows pretty they failed, so I'm a mac and plan to stay one for quite a time.

If I was going to do a duel computer I would probably put linux on it.

[@Kay] Yeah, but for now I'm not worried about the details yet, especially price since I don't plan on buying one for at least another year.

[@Riza] WTF!? EVERY KID IN PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL? Or do you mean in certain classes!? Holy s***, some budget.

The software's pretty easy to learn. One thing I need to learn is the shortcuts and whatnot, I only know a few,
then again I barely use my Macbook but yeah once I start getting photoshop and whatnot on it, I might start using it more, who knows.
I love my PC so much though, I've had it with me for nearly four years, it runs pretty darn well despite the viruses and adware, but hey, PC.... lol.

Are you talking about the graphics on the Mac or the PC?
The new monitors for the iMac are said to be great no matter what angle you're at. Literally down to the angel of every pixel.
And yeah, they are really user friendly, but I guess it's just what you do on a daily basis.

I wouldn't recommend buying a regular 13" Macbook (the one I have) even if you're just a browser type person,
but for someone who dLs a lot, and is really involved with online stuff, yeah, possibly, and if you hate attacks,
and now that the Macs seem to be just as strong as PCs, yeah, watch out....

@Riza
The school I work in only has a Mac Lab which has about 20 iMacs. Arts and Design teachers were given a MacBook though. When I read the reports and saw the receipt, my heart skipped a few beats. It almost burst the school's quartely budget >.<

I've learned using a Mac through Ubuntu. I used an OSX theme that allows me to use stacks and other things. Those who saw my Linux box thought I install OSX Leopard in my PC XD. Then again, I'm trying to see if I can make a Hackintosh in another box...

I'll be getting a 13" MacBook pro though, since I'll be moving around quite a lot. Some recommended me to buy a Netbook, but the specs doesn't agree with me.

Yeah I don't know how my school afforded it, but I guess it helps to live near Lowes corporate ^.^ They were all donated to our school and for the graphic design students our school purchased the full out adobe package. I really don't know where my school gets the money, but I'm really lucky to be a part of it!

My little brother got his linux computer to look and run like a mac, but it was originally a PC. I'm not that skilled, I know how to use the applications pretty well though and since I came to the school late I had to teach myself so I guess I like macs the best for that reason.

Yeah my one tech-ed class upgraded from the crappiest slowest PCs to work with for videos into all iMacs.
We had a huge budget upgrade since our school woops everyone's butt in every design contest around the state.

I have the Snow Leaopard OS disc that came with my Macbook, but haven't installed it yet. Should I, since it is an upgrade, right?

Some people mod out their PC into something their system can't handle and get crashes so often.

Haha, that happens to me plenty of times. I remembered overclocking my graphics card and next thing I know, i went over the top and the whole system hang. Luckily I haven't flash anything in the card yet or I'll hafta get a new graphics card >.>. I modded the case too much to provide more airflow, and instead, more heat was generated instead...ah...good times...

Well, I am quite interested in overclocking a Mac. I know for a fact that many are against overclocking an iMac CPU but most said that the GPU may be overclock a little. Maybe I should try it out one day...

I think it's best that you upgrade. Snow Leopard was supposedly to run faster and smoother than Leopard.

Yeah, I'll do it eventually. I barely use it now, so no worries.
It's cool the products come with it for free, like after Snow Leopard came out.

My future iMac will have it, and I so plan on getting it, I just need to get money.
There's this site online that my friend showed me where I could enter some designs and hopefully win contests for money for some companies and websites.
That's really the only way I can make money cause the freelance opportunities my school sends me via e-mail are not interesting,
and I don't want to get an actual part-time job and juggle my busy school schedule,
especially since I chose a lot of evening classes for next quarter, and with the winter, it's not an easy combo to manage.

Snow Leopard also apparently makes Safari better too (like with dealing with spyware and whatnot, too).
I read it on their site the one night I was looking at the new iMacs.

Man they sure are nice, and depending on how much money I make then, I'll either get the quad-core one,
or just stick with the basic one (which comes with the magic mouse [optional),
but I personally don't want to get it just because of the batteries but it's so darn nice, not sure if I'm going to pass that up!
I know I'm getting the non-wireless keyboard with the numeric pad (no extra cost) <-- also awesome!

Also, I'm still debating if I should totally switch over to my Macbook entirely now,
but I'm saying no because there's things on my PC my Macbook won't be able to have or use like Photoshop for instance,
and eventually I'll have to get that for the iMac, too, and not sure if I'll find a crack or buy it.
Again it depends on the money I make, but that's nothing I need to worry about now...

I just feel bad because my parents were surprised that I kept my PC after we brought the Macbook,
but yeah once I get my iMac I'm giving my PC to my sister.
Other than the keyboard missing some letters (since I obviously do a lot of typing of the years), it's friggin' awesome.

But moving all my PC files onto the future iMac, and if I decide to after all the Macbook, yeah that'll be a troublesome series of duties.

Makes me regret on getting a Macbook in the first place, and instead should've gotten an iMac,
but I got the Macbook because it was cheap and I wasn't actually paying for it,
and I wanted something I could travel around with and whatnot, like for example when I visit home.

But the iMac situation is something I decided to fully purchase for myself in the long, yet not so far future. :D

Well, as for me, I'll eventually moving all my notebook stuff to the macbook and install VMware or Parallel for windows (well, for some of the stuff only window has, and my work place uses windows. I can't view Active Directory on a mac). But for my desktop...I'm sticking to my PC. I can't play around with mac's hardware that much but I can do lotsa customization for my PC.

PC has blue screen of death, great. If I somehow manage to fix it and get it turned back on, I'm immediately moving ALL of my files onto my Macbook.
Then disconnecting the PC monitor and "duel-wielding" my Macbook screen and PC LCD HD screen.
I still have my external hard drive, but it'll still be for anime (as I'm only storing anime for it now anyways).
My pictures and music files will probably all go directly onto the Macbook HD, it's a small one, about 150 total, but not bad.

I wanted to reserve as much space as I could for it for future graphics stuff, but c'mon, I'm using this to the max now.
Second guessing if I should get an iMac or not, but that'll be way into the future.
I can just use my Macbook for a long time, and I'm not worried about getting it spywared or anything since Macbook has better protection anyways....

So yeah, not sure what I'm going to do. If my sister decides to get a notebook of her own,
but the Macbook Pro is only 1100$ now, and that's AWESOME! If I wanted a bit longer, I could've gotten it instead of the regular Macbook,
but yeah I don't want to give her my PC cause one, PCs are awfully terrible horrible, and two, I might be using the monitor duel wielding anyways.

If anyone has some suggestions to help me get rid of this blue screen, duh, that'd greatly be appreciated thanks!
I've had it few times before, and have gotten over it every time, I just don't remember how since yeah, it's been quite some time since the last one.
Tried rebooting it in safe mode, doesn't work, or last configuration settings that worked, same result.

Might try all the safe mode options, just gotta figure out which. "Reboot" is totally restarting your computer and clearing out everything, right? Never done it before, but I don't want to do that. I want my files.

I have Mac and I love it. I used to be a PC maniac, too and I dont really like change so I was not very keen to switch over but I'm very glad I did.
First I was very confused how I would use Macs, I couldnt even open Safari but you get used to it in a very short time.
One of my main concerns about switching was if the Microsoft office will be as good, but its exactly the same so dont worry about that.
Also my PC used to get viruses ALL THE TIME but Mac is new so there are almost no viruses developed for it yet. I havent been dealing with virus protections and all other annoying stuff since I switched.
There are also the programs unique to Mac like iMovie, Garageband, iPhoto and all the rest are great especially if you have an ipod, too.
The feature I adore the most? Force Quit. I remember waiting for AGES to close not responding programs in pc but with Mac, one click *POOF* closed in less than 10 seconds. Joy of my life

Negatively, I would say that I hate how I cant browse for folders when im saving a picture. I have to save everything on the desktop so I end up cleaning my desktop every day before turning the computer off
I also hate the spinning beach ball of death, but nothings perfect.

PS: i just realized your post is a year old, oh well XD

lol, it's okay, bumps are exceptable for these types of threads. ^_^

But hmm, you just got a Mac recently? There is a way to save files to where ever you want.
There's a down arrow next to the file name when you want to save it somewhere, it drops down the full menu.
At first I didn't know about it either but yeah it's useful now. You don't have to save everything to your desktop.

If you need help finding it I can probably make a screen pic.

Btw, what kind of Mac do you have exactly? iMac or Pro? ...or Air? XD

The only thing I have against Macs is that they don't have good repair service in my country. It almost costs a new one.
and is a lie that it doesn't lag. It is good but it isn't perfect. ha.

Still using my dell and happily with it wonderful service of repair.
bad stuff happens guys you must be prepared to it -_-;

Yeah they should have more independent stores for customer help, then again it might raise the rate of robbery. XD

The closest store from me was like a few blocks away when I lived in the city now since I moved back home it's 2 hrs away roughly.

Though honestly, nothing's happened to my Macbook anymore cause I don't do anything to it,
but these days I really want an iMac instead. Cause I never move my Macbook around cause I always dual wield it. :(

I inherited an iMac (Powermac G4) from my sister, which runs Leopard. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the installation discs at the Apple store, but I do plan on working something out so I can reinstall the OS clean. I haven't messed with it too much yet, so concepts like the active program's menu being in the panel instead of the window are alien to me. I'm grateful I know my way around the shell and filesystem, so it's not all unfamiliar territory. TenFourFox is a good browser for PPC Macs and the wireless adapter I got for it works well. I don't think I have to worry about something happening to the Mac malware-wise because I'm not going to, like, pirate Photoshop.

I would've liked to be able to theme the OS more extensively because I love customizing things, which is why I wanna be able to have a backup in case I break something. It'd also be nice if I could get that gap between the bottom of a fullscreen window and the whole screen, when you have the dock on auto-hide, could be closed. Other than that, I have no complaints. It's an interesting experience and my first time owning an Apple product (and a PPC system at that!)

When I move, I plan on using it as the family computer, as old as it is. I'm happy with it. It's a reliable computer for the average consumer.
