The 'Kei' Factor: They're all similar?
|
|
This is something that i've been wondering for a while now. And i thought 'Hey, lemme ask the people at Gendou' In a lot of animes, the main male character always has 'Kei' as part of his name. examples: 'Kei' Kusanagi - Onegai Teacher 'Kei'taro Urashima - Love Hina 'Kei'ichi Morisato - Ah! my Goddess 'Kei'ta Ibuki - black God/Kurokami And that's just a few of them, I'm sure there are more from animes that i haven't watched yet. Now, I'm sure this has been mentioned before. And I'm sure people that are into Japanese culture more then i am know the reasoning behind these similar namings. I just thought I'd bring it up. As it has been bothering me. |

I guess you need to watch a lot more anime then.

Kei certainly seems to be a common name. But then it's just like how English names like John or Daniel are really common. So what?
Insert witty remark here.

It don't really matter about the similarities in thew names , and thus it does not bother me , even a lil' (My family name is one of the most common names found among most Chinese out there :/) And don't forget , 'Kei' is not the only common name Japanese anime male characters use , how about Ryu ? Or Ryo and Gin ? It's somehow pointless to talk about this any longer for me ..... so I'll make this clear . These days , name does not really matter anymore (or should I say it's not the only important thing that's a person knows about you) , it's how you distinguish yourself from the rest who somehow had the similar name to yours . |

Kei is just a part of a Japanese name. According to Wikipedia, it can be written in kanji all of these ways: åœ, "square jewel" æµ, "blessing" æ…§, "wise" æ…¶, "jubilation" 敬, "respect" ä½³, "excellent" æ¡‚, "Japanese Judas-tree" å•“, "disclose" It can also be part of a female name or stand alone as a female, like Keiko from Yu Yu Hakusho or Battle Royale, or Yasuda Kei from Morning Musume. |
