Now recruiting for an Outlaw Star RPG held in #outlaw_star on IRC.ESPER.NET (IRC Based Game) Name: Email: Gender: Species: Human, C'tarl C'tarl, Silgrian, Saurian, Coronite, Sith, or Bio Android Birth Year: Height: Weight: Background: History: Description: Notes: Outlaw Star is the universe far into the future where humans span all known parts of the universe, be it on colonies like Blue Heaven or planets like Heiphong. As Toonami called it, it's literally the wild west of the future. Ships no longer need thrusters for high speed travel, only for short distance traveling. High-speed, long distance space travel takes place in a non-space using ether, a natural substance in space. Special engines stir this substance and form bubbles around ships, encasing them from normal space, allowing ships to pass through subether. This allows one to travel from one side of the galaxy to the next in just days instead of the centuries it would take for our known technology. New ship technology is not limited to propulsion systems. Weaponry hasn't come as far, however, as machine guns and missiles of different types still make up the majority of a ship's arsenal. However, some ships are fitted with retractable arms that are strong enough to fight with. These Grappler ships are good for recovering large objects or for hand to hand spaceship combat, able to be equiped with small guns and melee weapons. Along with exploration, of course, comes discovery of more sentient races of life. Humans, of course, who seem to make up the majority of the population. The C'Tarl C'Tarl, a race of cat people, who have their own solar system with multiple inhabited planets. They are a warrior race, extremely strong, proud of their heritage, and millitary oriented. There's the Saurians, a race of large reptile-like people. Other than being very tough and serious, little is known about them as few were in the show. The Silgrian, who are bird-like in appearance. They're overly friendly, especially with humans, but they aren't exactly combat worthy. Another reace is slug-like and called the Rorgan, who don't get along with humans. Then there is the sentient bug race, the Sith, who are only known as cockroach-like. Anything further about them is unknown except that they are on bad terms with humans. Finally there's the Corbonites, a race of little green men that need special suits to breathe in oxygen rich atmospheres. They have an "older cousin" race called the Nayans. That's not to say the universe lost it's diversity among the humans. There are many sub groups for humans to fit into, but the majority of interesting ones are either Outlaws or Pirates. Outlaws live life on the run, doing odd jobs, some illegal and some not, just to make a living. Outlaw seems to have become a very wide term, describing anyone that just does jobs for people, even only legal ones, or those that make a living doing the dirty work of life, high crime, sabotage, assassinating, and the like. Pirates on the other hand aren't so random. Pirates are grouped in different sects, ranging from small groups of peace pirates to large, feared organizations. Among those are the Kei Pirates, who consist of the 108 stars, tao magic users of various ranks and abilities. Even these 108 are broken into their own sub-groups, usually foused on the single goal of the strongest of the group. Kei Pirates have magical abilities, allowing any number of things. Basic spells involve simple chants that create huge fireballs or unbreakable shields. Higher level users don't even need the chants to cause huge damage with a wave of a hand. This isn't the only kind of magic there is, as a second type exsists. Special guns, called Casters, designed to fire shells that contain magic spells. There are 20 types of shells, all extremely rare and with very, very few that know how to make them. They are powerful, though, strong enough to counter tao magic and defeat it's users. This is the galaxy of Outlaw Star. How you exist in it is up to you as long as in the end you've changed it, even in the smallest way. |
