Why 'The Most UGLIEST Dog In The World' exists???

I read about this stupid horrendous competition in Metro newspaper 2 weeks ago and good lord, this was such disgraceful. This competition is made purely for the sake of entertaining humans who like to make fun of things very seriously indeed! I find that really disturbing. Why would some people have the guts to categorise beings as ugly to the world? Are they implying dogs have no self respect? No brain like humans to think what respect is? It's absolutely wrong for owners to proudly boasting that their dogs are UGLY. And I couldn't believe this competition is in its 21st year. WTF. This is 2009 winner of Ugliest Dog in The World contest:  This dog here looked like an inbred, its lower teeth really stuck out. Anything inbred dogs always qualify for dog shows, which is absolutely encourage dog abuse. I might be wrong, that bulldog may not be an inbred, but it does look like one. This can't be on the same Ugliest Dog comp, another pic:  OMG How could this owner take this to the max??? That poor dog. Come on dog lovers, seriously will you call dogs like that ugly fugly-like? And truly proud that those dogs are ugly and meant to be like that? Like God really make those dogs fugly intentionally to amuse humans?! Good lord. |

Honestly, even how much you love something. You just need to be honest and accept that "ugliness" does exist at some point. I, myself a dog lovers ever since I was a kid, seeing that kind of dog, I have to admit that it scared me and I won't even dare to get near it. But well, I'll agree with you on the parts that they shouldn't be make fun of. They do deserve respect after all they live just like us human being. No one love being ugly, or poor right? What can we do about it? Nothing right? Kill those that made fun of us? How? It'll cause more wars. We just have to accept it I guess, no point being mad about it. What else can we do other than feel bad, or see how this world truely is? Not like this people will listen to us anyway, I don't get why they do this kind of things other than they just want fame and money. That's all they can think of without caring about others feelings. We basically just another person living in this big yet small world of unpeaceful environment. No point involving "God" in this, its us human who's at fault and that fact won't change. |

Not that I'm some fan of this sort of stuff, but there's even worst things than this and it's not a surprise at all. There's just some things in life that just make some parts of the world a really ugly place.

They can call them ugly , but to me , they're unique to a certain extent :) . Clearly , it's just a competiton . So it's only a part of the story . But who knows they may look ugly to them , but they might think that they're beautiful inside (human way of thinking is somewhat complicated) . And because of that , they take care of them very well , despite their ugly looks (which I'm very fine with that) . So , judging or drawing a conclusion of a person based from their very first sight is wrong in many ways (Sorry , Wootos . I might have to disagree with you on this one :( ) . Judging from the picture posted there , it seems that they're in their fittest mode , which already supports the statement given by me above furthermore . It's because of the bond form between the dog and it's owner , not from the physical looks but from their heart . Plus , if you do some research , there are breeds of dogs which has ugly looks , and for a reason , thus , telling us that they're actually not alien breed whatsoever XD . I'm not being offensive , but here's the thing . I do have dogs at home too (And not just dogs only , I have fishes , hamsters , birds and wild animals like bla bla bla .....) and one of my dog had suffered from a form of cancer which causes multible growth to grow on her body (yes , it's a 'she' XD) , making her look like an ugly Labrador Retriver :/ . Me and my mother once in a while send her to the veternarian <-hope I spelled it right for check-up . On one day , when we sent her to the vet , one person with her dog came to us and says this "My , my , your dog has a lot of those growths on her and looks old already (Yes again , she's old in the doggy world) . Why don't you put it to sleep ?" . And my mother replied , "If your dog is somehow having a skin disease that causes it to go bald and ugly , are you going to put it to sleep ? Eventhough it's only about a few years old only ....." . She went silent after that , but my mother continues on her talk with her , "Why do you keep a dog in the first place when you know things like this is going to happen to them ? Is it because they look cute when they're puppy ? Adorable ? And if you like them because of so , then that makes you no better than a dirty beggar on the street and worse than a street dog . It's because you love your dog just because of it's looks but not from the bottom of your heart , but I don't . I care for my dog as she has taken care of me when I'm lonely , and I will sacrifice my tight budget just to make sure she lives on as a healthy dog till' natural death takes her away . And you tell me to end the life of something that is dearest to me and became part of my family !?" ..... I just nod my head as my mother lectures her (Trust me , she's a serious animal lover) and plus , the doctor overheard the conversation and he came out of his room and says "She's right , you know ....." . She , in the end forgive everyone in the pet shop and her dog too (from her expression , she somehow learnt her lesson :) ) Well , others are just history , but what I'm trying to say here is partly stated in this very post of mine . Another thing is that if you want to blame a person , blame the person who neglects/abuses their pet or uses their own pet for the wrong causes which disregards their pets life . I don't blame the competition and the competitors of the competition becuase in general , there's no serious harm being made there (others than the idiotic people who thinks ugly dogs as such) . And like DA already mentioned before , there are much worse events which are cruel towards animals to a certain extent that their life is nothing but for money , entertainment and fame only (which also mean that if they get injured or die , they'll get dumped aside like a worthless junk) . Need example ? Just an opinion from me :P . No offense , nya ? XD |

Those dogs aren't ugly. Okay, maybe the small is, but just a little bit. There are uglier human people in this world, so we probably shouldnt be picking on dogs. Not that I think we should pick on people either....okay, i'll stop now. I just totally confused myeslf.      |

But it's such a waste of time putting up an ugliest dog contest when those dogs are already beautiful in the eye of the beholder. Isn't it kinda segregating to separate these dogs just cuz they're ugly? I never say they are aliens, they still have dog attributes. It's just that I don't get it why bother putting up an ugliest dog contest? What happens if some less responsible owners exploiting this contest for themselves rather than those dogs? I know I shouldn't give a rat's ass about it but it's better to be aware over something, like dog abuse and all that. |

Well. I believe that ugliness does not exist and what we term "ugly" is simply a person's very limited perception. To others perhaps, the dogs are not ugly but beautiful in their own way. C.S Lewis, in the Magician's Nephew, states that “What you see and hear depends a good deal on where you are standing; it also depends on what sort of person you are." As long as one do what they think is right, what they believe is right , what they conceptualize as the correct ideals, they are in not wrong. Is there a need to perceive ugliness ? |
