portable apps are programs that you can run from like, a USB flashdrive, or a some other kind of portable storage. for example, you could install CS4 portable on your flashdrive, go to some other computer, [like at the library for instance] plug in your drive, and run CS4 from there. If you just want to install CS4 on your own computer/laptop download regular CS4. If you want to have CS4 on a flashdrive so you can use it at school or a library, download the portable version. --- As far as differences in the programs' functions.. I'm not aware of any significant features that the portable version does not have. I DO know, that Adobe does not have Technical Support for its Portable version, only the the other. On their site I found: "When you save and open files across a network or from removable media, many variables affect application performance. Consequently, some problems (for example, damaged files, denied access, or slow performance) occur more frequently when you work across a network or from removable media than when you work from a local hard disk." and "Adobe Technical Support only supports using Photoshop CS4 on a local hard disk because of the difficulty of re-creating or accurately identifying network- and peripheral-configuration problems." at this page. |
