(I've decided to give it another go, with modified rules. Until I can find suitable pictures, the movements' leaders won't be around. I'll try and fix this as soon as possible.) In the beginning, there was Divinity. Divinity is the singularity from which all that is the universe came from. After growing tired of spending eternity alone, she decided that one of her creations should stand apart from the rest, special. This special creation was Earth. Divinity poured her very being into the planet, making it sparkle with life. She filled the planet with fire to keep her children warm; she gave them trees for shade; she gave them rivers and oceans to swim in; she gave them mountains so that they may explore and learn; she gave them sound that they may converse with one another; and she gave them time, so that they could grow old and share their stories of the world with their children. Before she knew it, the planet she had fallen in love with was slowly sapping her power, killing her. Rather than take her gifts back, she gave herself to her beloved creations even more. She inscribed magics into the world, so that even when she had fallen away, the planet would go on. These things were written into the landscape, like a page from a book, telling the earth how to be solid and stable, and the storm how to rage. As the last of her strength failed, she called upon her favorite children, the foxes. She entrusted these thirteen kitsune with the survival of her power, blessing them with the knowledge of magic and the world around them, and assigned each of them a charge: Heaven- guardian of the daylight and overseer of the world Void- guardian of the night and weaver of dreams Wind- the guardian of wind, mist, and fog Spirit- the guardian of immortal souls Fire- the guardian of fire and all that is associated with it Earth- the guardian of the ground and the plants that come from it River- guardian of pure moving waters and rain Ocean- guardian of the heavy waters and the maker of typhoons Mountain- guardian of stone and bearer of the skies Forest- guardian of the ever-regenerating life force of the world and a shield for all living things Thunder- guardian of the skies and the creator of life Time- guardian of progress and death, charged with preventing stagnation of life Sound - guardian of communication and the bond of life Thousands of years have passed since the death of Divinity, and the world still runs like clockwork. Time moves forward, the forests grow and shelter the animals, and the mountains still stand tall. Or do they? Three years ago, daylight darkened and an amazingly bright light was observed radiating from the famous crater in Arizona. Millions flocked to the area, few of whom knew the story of Divinity and the kitsune. Scientists observed from a ‘safe’ distance, and nobody was allowed near the site, but one boy made it through. Since that day, the world has gone on, but with new battles. The world has learned of Divinity and divided into two factions: those who believe that the new guardian of heaven should keep Divinity’s gift and continue its use, and those that believe that Divinity should be revived. Today, the scrolls are in the hands of a select few. These people clash over and over, trying to take all of the power for themselves and decide the fate of the world. The factions have organized, with the Divinists destroying whatever they can, and the Continuationists always showing up to repair the damage. Recently, however, a shrine was found bearing the same writing as the scrolls. Upon analysis, it was determined that there were twelve more shrines, each responsible for one scroll's power. By simultaneously activating all of the shrines, the world can be saved or destroyed in an instant. Now that the battle's end is in sight, the search for the shrines has escalated the war for the scrolls. Who will prevail? RULES: 1. No Godmoding, no killing of other people's characters without their permission, etc. 2. This is PG-13. 3. Romance is fine, but no graphic stuff. *gag* 4. We’re going global, people! The world is our stage! 5. You can be a Divinitist (Member of the cult that worships Divinity. If nobody joins this side, I’ll create them.), a Continuationist (those that want the scrolls’ power to be used as they always have), or neutral (Don’t know what you’d do. Mercenary, maybe?). 6. Make sure that your affiliation is clear in your profile, if not to other characters. Switching sides is okay. 7. All posting styles are welcome. 8. The rules of owning a scroll: A. The scroll is not ‘yours’. It can be taken away by another character through believable means. For example, you drop it, it’s fair game. That being the case, I wouldn’t suggest dropping it. B. Your power is not infinite. Each new construction uses your body’s energy. C. If your ‘construction code’ (I call it that because I think of this as writing an object code for a video game) is damaged, it has to be repaired manually. Your rock breaks, you have to make a new one. D. A scroll’s power is heightened in a place where its subject is prevalent; if you’re at the beach, the Ocean Scroll will just use existing water to ease the strain on your body. 9. You can do what you like if the scroll is in your possession. Give it away, sell it, whatever, but don’t expect everyone to be happy about it. 10. Multiple characters are allowed, but three's the limit. Twins count as one if they're using the same scroll. Also, one scroll per Gendou.com member, no matter how many characters they have, in the interest of fairness. There are many ways to use the scrolls, and I'll put a few below. 1. Opening it and reading it. Not really feasible in battle, but you can do it and say you learned the incantation. After you learn the incantation, you can just touch the scroll and say the spell's name, but it'll be more powerful if you read the whole spell. 2. For summoning weapons (my primary use for the scroll), I'd suggest Naruto-style, like Tenten. (If you don't get it that way, PM me.) 3. For big spells like restoring a forest or keeping a tunnel from collapsing, you'll be using a "construction environment". These spells are powerful, take a long time, and force you to be still, so make sure you're safe. A construction environment works like this: You hold the scroll up, and it splits into four parts that orbit your body at about shoulder level, around arm's-length away. A length of scroll extends from each piece, connecting the parts and forming a ring. Inside the ring, focus and read the spell. Done! Suggested character sheet Name: Your character's name Scroll: Not necessary, as explained below. First come, first serve. Age: No restrictions besides human limitations. You are NOT 4000 years old. Gender: Male or Female Appearance: Picture or description Weapons: Anything you can use in battle outside a scroll. For those without a scroll, you can use a few "Faux spells", or parts copied from the scrolls to arm the foot soldiers without real scrolls. Biography: What we need to know about your past. Affiliation: Divinist, Continuationist, or neither? Things and places to know: Red targets are Divinist-controlled areas. Blue targets are Continuationist-controlled areas. Yellow targets (I realized that gray doesn't show up well.) Are the areas that we're going to or are currently fighting for. Basically, these are active sites. Places of note: Berlin, Germany: Divinist HQ Tokyo, Japan: Continuationist HQ Amazon Rainforest, South America: Forest Shrine Osaka, Japan: Site of recent thefts Guilin, China: Mountain Shrine =========================================================================================================== Name: Rictus Karasu Scroll: Heaven Age: 18 Gender: Male Appearance: Weapons: dual sabers Biography: The boy that took possession of the Heaven scroll, at the head of the continuation movement, whether he likes it or not. Funded by the newly organized Continuationist groups, he’s been forced to travel the world, searching for the other scrolls. Affiliation: Continuationist Name: Corvus Moonring (Gotta have at least one bad guy.) Scroll: Void Age: 19 Gender: Male Appearance: Weapons: A six-foot-tall scythe composed of dark energy. Biography: The owner of the Void scroll and the highest-ranked scroll user in the divinist ranks. He has no memory of childhood and speaks only of restoring Divinity, whom he calls "Mother." Affiliation: Divinist |

Name: Gerald Williamson Gender: Male Scroll: Earth Age: 22 Weapon: Baseball bat, pick. Appearance: Bio: (I just spent 20 min writing this to submit during maintenance, this is short version to be expanded when less exhausted). Gerald got into college through baseball scholarship, went to Eastern Asia on personal project. He unearthed Earth scroll, he doesn't understand all of it yet, but has tested what he does know to great affect, and wearing himself out in process. But the main thing he cares about is the history of the thing, and to understand creation, so upon hearing of shrines with similar writings, he sets off to learn, and maybe try to understand more of this Scroll. Affiliation: Neutral, intellectual pursuits, so far. |

Name: ZAN (aka the wiseman) Gender: Male Scroll: Mountain Age: 22 Weapon: anything goes, prefers barefist Appearance: reference: Toudou Kai - Utakata Bio: Deep within the mountain range of Guillin lies a shrine, where The Wiseman, also known as ZAN (yes, all uppercase), lives. No one knows his real name and it seems that he himself had thrown it since he became a wiseman. One might wonder how come a 22-year old has a title comparable to that of a sage's. Well, long story short, he was enlightened by the Mountain scroll INSIDE the Mountain shrine. He grew up in a good environment, had experienced all of life's ups and downs, and eventually grew into a good and wise kid in a very young age. 2 years ago, his grandpa entrusted him a scroll which is said to be the family's secret treasure, to which his job as the oldest one of the last generation, is to protect it from harm's hands. The grandpa then explained to him about the current condition of the world, how the divinists and continualists fight for the power of the scrolls, and about the Mountain shrine in Guillin that is the family's property (seriously). Since then, ZAN has been living in the Mountain shrine, helping nearby villages for a living. Affiliation: Neither. He acts as a mentor to everyone, giving knowledge to those who need it. However, he doesn't hesitate to protect his own scroll Location: Mountain Shrine - Guillin - China

(@H: Good god yes! Take it, by all means! I'm going to go ahead and start, though. @All: Ready, steady, go! I'm adding the world map to the first post.) Continuationist HQ Rictus woke to his cell phone's incessant beeping. He sleepily rubbed his eyes and flicked the phone open with his thumb. What he saw there woke him up immediately. To: All Scroll-bearers From: Central Urgent: New research data. Location of shrine confirmed. Meeting in briefing room, 0600 hours. It was the all-call that they had been waiting for. For months, they had awaited news for a chance at redemption. When the Forest Shrine was discovered, the Continuationists had made a grave error in their calculations. The Divinists had quickly realized how important the shrine would be and had mobilized their entire militia against the few researchers that the Continuationists had sent. Rictus was the only scroll-bearer at the massacre and had barely managed to save the few people he did. He was soundly trounced by Corvus in a one-on-one duel, but Corvus left him, saying that he had more important things to attend to. Rictus had returned triply shamed, leaving the shrine soundly in Divinist hands. They had tried once to take it back, but the effort proved futile, resulting in more losses. There was a large military unit stationed at the site at all times, and even the scroll bearers stood no chance against their wanton disregard for Earth and vast array of weaponry. Since that day, Rictus had spent all of his time training, swearing that the next shrine would belong to the Creationists and that Corvus would regret letting him live. He practiced fencing and kendo all day and used as much energy as he could to build up stamina. He took a quick look at his clock, which told him that he had an hour before he was needed in the briefing room. That was enough time for a cold shower and hot tea. Meanwhile, the others would be gathering. He couldn't remember if anyone was abroad, but if they were, they would be taken to the closest branch, where they would join the meeting via a video conference. The cold water hit his face, stopping all thoughts about the task ahead of him. ================================================================================================================================= Divinist HQ Corvus was awake, though nobody had ever heard of him sleeping. If he did it, he did it with his eyes open. The man was creepy, even by Divinist standards. He walked around with his eyes half-closed and uncaring. He was silent most of the time. He didn't even have to tell anyone what he wanted to eat. The staff just knew. Over the years, they had become sensitive to his inclinations and prepared what he wanted. That was the way the higher-ups wanted it. They had made it clear that everyone was to stay out of his way unless he wanted you there. The only times that he really ever interacted with anyone was during his daily training or whenever the Coreol girl decided to talk to him. She was the only one brave enough to approach him of her own free will. Nobody knew why she'd bother, though, or what they talked about. It was widely assumed that they talked about the scrolls. Nobody could imagine Corvus caring enough about anything else. Tonight, he was training again. He beckoned one of the people assigned to spar with him. Every last one of them had been ordered not to put a scratch on him, and they were too afraid in any case. He touched his forefinger to the scroll in its special case on his belt. Dark energy sprang from the scroll and became a scythe, which he snagged from the air as it fell. He twirled it between his hands, over his shoulders, and around his body. He stopped and looked dully at the man before him. He nodded his head slightly and charged, weapon flasing furiously as it whistled through the air. The man was barely able to stay on his feet, much less actively guard. Somehow, he managed to avoid the scythe, but Corvus quickly spun and smashed his elbow into the man's face. He began to fall backward, but Corvus was already behind him and smashed his knee into the small of his "partner"'s back. Then Corvus rolled and caught the man's neck in the crook of the scythe. He twisted his body and drove the man face-first into the floor, where he stayed, twitching. All of this happened in the space of about five seconds. He looked down at his bloodied victim. "You should be dead," he said simply. Medics rushed forward and rolled him onto a stretcher. Another cleaned up the blood. Corvus let the scythe fall, but it just evaporated into wisps of black smoke when it touched the floor. He moved back to the center of the room and waited for the cleanup to end. |

(Cornell University; Ithica, NY) Gerald took a deep breath of the familiar air, he could see many people just wandering about, minding their business. He was partially relieved to just be home, the college air so electric with its own type of energy. Being amidst such a crowd after weeks of isolation in a faraway land was revitilizing. After dropping off most of his stuff, keeping his scroll with him in his sports bag, he headed to the practice field to hit a few. Once he was there, inspiration struck him in the locker room. Looking around and finding no other possible observers, grabs a marker from the coach's desk in the office nearby. Gerald pulls away part of the grip on the bat and writes a phrase from the scroll, one that especially means strong and steadfast. Once finished, pulls the grip into its original position, and places the bat in the bag gently, next to the scroll's case. Unscrewing the cap on the case enough to allow minimal contact with the bat, lightly pressing his valued bat against the scroll, he sees a small spark and a glow emitting from below the glyph which fades quickly. Gerald, feeling some of the usual wooziness that came whenever using the scroll, quickly replaces the cap, and the marker, and marches for the field fully ready for a nice field test. Once out there, Gerald heads to the batting cages. Swinging smooth and easy to start with, Gerald was surprised to see that he was smacking balls with what seemed to be as much force as when fully warmed up. Daring not to hit so hard he'd break something important, he stops earlier than usual and heads back. Everyday, Gerald must have passed this particular building, but today he stopped, not for any particular reason the building had to offer, but of the snatchet of conversation he heard from a pair of girls leaving it. "Yea, I think my thesis is going to be on the Divinity theory." "Oh, the one with the scrolls, that has to be the silliest one yet." "You may be right, but I hear some guys found a shrine to it in South America, think I can get in?" "I doubt it, if memory serves, there was some fight between them and some local terrorists or something or other." Gerald felt like a fool. How could he NOT at least look at the mythology department immediately upon arrival. Turning on a dime, he strode right on in, looking at the directory for the mythology department, and continued on. Finding the room, Gerald steps inside with no resistance and sees an old woman turn to face him, lines of years long gone so numerous, she looked as if she could be old enough for some of these "myths" to be local news he thought to himself. "This class has ended. Please have a nice day as you escort yourself out young man." |
