Ok, why in freaking hell do I see people saying "Jap" so much? Damn, that is a direct insult in my colleagues and my own opinion, as well as not correct. Really, instead of saying that, SPELL IT ALL THE FREAKING WAY OUT, or just use JPN! This rant to add on to bannable offenses is brought to you by Doc Thunder Cola. Goes in fizzy, comes out s****. And to those of you who are going to be smartasses and go, oh look in the ToS, there is already a rule, shh! XP

Just ticks me off because of how someone called my mother that and how she just broke down later on, so I just naturally hate that term. It is a derogatory comment in my eyes, though it may not mean to be so, but it is, especially after the treatment of Japaneses-Americans back during WWII.

there is a big difference between using a term in a derogatory manner and typing lazy. in japanese, many words are shortened for convenience, コンビニ for example :P i moderate all of the posts in this forum meticulously, if i run across derogatory language it is removed immediately. i do recall ever seeing "Jap" used in a derogatory manner on this website. |

i agree that every time i see someone has used the term "jap" whether derogatory or not i cringe. it is NOT ok to use it even if it IS shorter than typing out the whole thing. if people think it is ok to use "jap", then hey! why don't we all use our racist names? personally i use either japn (which is what my college uses to shorten it) or jpz if i want to shorten it.

I don't use the term "jap" but i didn't know that it bothered you so much when other people use it... good thing i know it now... |

I'm sorry this offended you. But you please understand that people out there can use it and try not to be offended next time because "Jap" is proper usage in English; it's a clipping. It can't stand on it's own because it's not a whole word but it's like "Bio" or "fridge" or "Chem".It can be used in English properly, not necessarily professionaly though. People don't want to say the entire thing so the word has been clipped and I guess it's accepted as a part of the English language. But it's okay to be offended, just understand that it can be used. I've never heard people use JPN before but I'll keep that in mind. |

I think that JPN as Japan's acronym is official. I have watched an international martial arts competition not long ago and when the screen focused on one Japanese contestant, the acronym JPN was flashed along with his name. It's a good thing you mentioned that acronym offends you. Thank you for informing us. ^_^ |
