Scattered Pages: The Grimoire of Creation (Join!)
Link | by Karasu on 2008-09-10 12:56:35 (edited 2008-09-14 18:32:40)
In the beginning, there was Divinity. Divinity is the singularity from which all that is the universe came from. After growing tired of spending eternity alone, she decided that one of her creations should stand apart from the rest, special. This special creation was Earth.

Divinity poured her very being into the planet, making it sparkle with life. She filled the planet with fire to keep her children warm; she gave them trees for shade; she gave them rivers and oceans to swim in; she gave them mountains so that they may explore and learn; she gave them sound that they may converse with one another; and she gave them time, so that they could grow old and share their stories of the world with their children.

Before she knew it, the planet she had fallen in love with was slowly sapping her power, killing her. Rather than take her gifts back, she gave herself to her beloved creations even more. She inscribed magics into the world, so that even when she had fallen away, the planet would go on. These things were written into the landscape, like a page from a book, telling the earth how to be solid and stable, and the storm how to rage.

As the last of her strength failed, she called upon her favorite children, the foxes. She entrusted these thirteen kitsune with the survival of her power, blessing them with the knowledge of magic and the world around them, and assigned each of them a charge:

Heaven- guardian of the daylight and overseer of the world
Void- guardian of the night and weaver of dreams
Wind- the guardian of wind, mist, and fog
Spirit- the guardian of immortal souls
Fire- the guardian of fire and all that is associated with it
Earth- the guardian of the ground and the plants that come from it
River- guardian of pure moving waters and rain
Ocean- guardian of the heavy waters and the maker of typhoons
Mountain- guardian of stone and bearer of the skies
Forest- guardian of the ever-regenerating life force of the world and a shield for all living things
Thunder- guardian of the skies and the creator of life
Time- guardian of progress and death, charged with preventing stagnation of life
Sound - guardian of communication and the bond of life

Thousands of years have passed since the death of Divinity, and the world still runs like clockwork. Time moves forward, the forests grow and shelter the animals, and the mountains still stand tall.

Or do they?

Three years ago, daylight darkened and an amazingly bright light was observed radiating from the famous crater in Arizona. Millions flocked to the area, few of whom knew the story of Divinity and the kitsune. Scientists observed from a ‘safe’ distance, and nobody was allowed near the site, but one boy made it through.
Since that day, the world has gone on, but with new battles. The world has learned of Divinity and divided into two factions: those who believe that the new guardian of heaven should keep Divinity’s gift and continue its use, and those that believe that Divinity should be revived.

This morning, Mount Fuji disappeared. Now it’s a race to see who can get the new scrolls and complete the Grimoire of Creation, determining the future of the universe.

RULES:
1. No Godmoding, no killing of other people's characters without their permission, etc.
2. This is PG-13.
3. Romance is fine, but no graphic stuff. *gag*
4. We’re going global, people! The world is our stage!
5. You can be a Divinitist (Member of the cult that worships Divinity. If nobody joins this side, I’ll create them.), a Continuationist (those that want the scrolls’ power to be used as they always have), or neutral (Don’t know what you’d do. Mercenary, maybe?).
6. Make sure that your affiliation is clear in your profile, if not to other characters. Switching sides is okay, but make sure you send me a message so that I can change it on your profile.
7. All posting styles are welcome.
8. The rules of owning a scroll:
A. The scroll is not ‘yours’. It can be taken away by another character through believable means. For example, you drop it, it’s fair game. That being the case, I wouldn’t suggest dropping it. (Side note: the first one to touch the scroll is more likely to bring out its full power.)
B. Your power is not infinite. Each new construction uses your body’s energy.
C. If your ‘construction code’ (I call it that because I think of this as writing an object code for a video game) is damaged, it has to be repaired manually. Your rock breaks, you have to make a new one.
D. A scroll’s power is heightened in a place where its subject is prevalent; if you’re at the beach, the Ocean Scroll will just use existing water to ease the strain on your body.
9. You can do what you like if the scroll is in your possession. Give it away, sell it, whatever, but don’t expect everyone to be happy about it.

Profile: Send me a pm with your profile. It’ll be easier to keep up with who’s who.

Name: Akira Kamiya
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Appearance: Akira Kamiya
Weapons: Sword with chain and scythe
Biography: When he was youg, there was this old man who always told him a legend of an anciet goddess, but he never really cared for it, since the news started to spread and people to divide in their opinions. Akira though people shouln't care for what god's set to them, but do it by themselves. Whenever someone new talked to him about this, he or she would always think Akira's a "continuationst", for sure. But he was more neutral, actually, he thought that everyone should just throw away those scrolls and that people should try to fix the world that people destoyed by themselves, since it's not any god's fault that we crapped the world, so why should they fix it?
It was like this on every place he visited. Since he liked to sit on the balcony of popular places and talk to new people, he was always meeting new people, so he talked to all kind of people. Extreme for both to neutral. He was really amused of how people got attached to their opinions.
One day he was on a bar on a big country of the world, when the hurricane alarm started to ring. But there was no cast for such a big hurricane, people was ralley scared all over the city. When the notice that there wasn't only one, but three hurricanes in a row coming to the city, every single one kept saying that the city was doomed for sure.
Akira was being pushed in the direction of a shelter when he realized, that that was the power of a scroll for sure, but he wouldn't mind on searching for it.

(You know what? I think I'll just let people post their profiles as we go. It takes too long to write the HTML for such things as cumulative logs. L'Arc-en-Ciel said it best: Let's get started, Ready, Steady, GO!)

The Learjet landed at Tokyo International Airport around three in the afternoon after making a run over the land where Mount Fuji used to be. There were no signs that any trickery was afoot, but the crowds around the area were massive even from a mile in the air.

The jet was a hideous thing, with stylized wings and a ridiculous "two shades darker than eggshell" white paintjob. Though he hated it, the church was paying for it, so grateful was the word of the day. He stepped down and looked at the thing with disdain, taking his sunglasses off for a moment to shake his hair out because he had fallen asleep on the plane again. He wasn't even excited; the Continuationists had robbed him of that sense of adventure. The second scroll had activated, and he couldn't care less. It was his job to collect them and become the new god, but cynicism was probably going to ruin that. He sighed as his attendants (who were wearing robes that matched the plane) dragged his luggage down the stairs, all the while babbling about how his time had come, how proud the church would be. He cut them off. "Shut up and hand me the scroll. I need to find the Bind and Protect construction codes." They complied immediately.

He had barely unfurled the thing before a Japanese Branch car pulled up, containing a bodyguard that said nothing and a driver that took up where the others left off. Rictus flopped into the back seat and slid into the middle so that attendants could sheild him on both sides. Worse, he hated them touching him even more than he hated them talking to him. "Let's go."

Matthew, Matt for short, was on his bike, pedaling as fast as he could with about 20-25 kilos on his back. It was incredible, Mt. Fuji, MOUNT FUJI, the most notable natural structure in Japan, heck, in all of East Asia some may say, was gone! He had gone through a lot of consterntation and preparation to climb the thing today, and now that is not going to happen. However, there was something behind this, and seeing as how no mortal can just blink a whole mountain from existance, it had to be divine intervention. Just thinking about all this made Matt pedal harder. He was getting so close, he could imagine himself now, dimly lit in the sunset, as the hero carefully and gently grasps the artifact. In an act of reverance of history long since forgotten by most, he takes a moment to appreciate it, and then, he has to run like heck. Matt had to remember after this, to go ahead and watch the whole Indiana Jones collection again. For soon, he would have the prespective of Professor Jones himself.

He had his bat, his Indiana Jones clothes, including whip. He had a sleeping bag, some climbing gear, and of course, some preserving equipment to make sure the thing doesn't get damaged. The stuff was fairly new, he had just bought it in fact, he never really PLANNED on being an archeologist, just a scholar, but ooooohhhhh, if he didn't enjoy this now.

(All right, this is what a construction should roughly look like, though the invocation needn't be this long.)

Police were forcefully moving people aside so that the car could get through. Rictus hated crowds, especially those that were less aware of what was going on than sleeping farm animals.

At the end of the crowd, there were a few feet of grass, followed by the biggest dirt lot he had ever seen. This was going to be difficult.

He stepped from the car only after the bodyguard told him it was safe. He opened the scroll case and tossed it into the air. "Construction environment, activate!" The scroll split into four even pieces (the long way, meaning that if you looked at it so that it appeared to be a circle, it'd be like this: (+)) and the pieces stood vertically in midair, like the corners of a square. A split second later, ribbon-like paper shot out of each piece, connecting them. Now, Rictus stood in the center of a rather large floating circle. "Light of Heaven, embrace me and hide me away from that which seeks to harm me, for I am your champion. Let your warmth be the shield that protects those within this circle. Construct: Prism Field!"

A pale blue square stretched between the scroll pieces and elongated into a box that encased Rictus's body. "Construction complete. Deactivate." The scroll reassembled and flew into his hand. "Phew. Glad that worked." He looked up at the sun for a moment. I'm glad I brought it back. It was so dark without it.

Rictus turned to the new person coldly. "Can I help you?" Rictus wasn't afraid. He was inside his barrier, but was already starting to feel the drain. The guards started to move in, but Rictus waved them back. "I asked him a question, fools."

"I am Laren Wright of the Tsurugi Kingdom and I need your help. I'm looking for twi scrolls. The time and space scrolls are the one I need to amplify my power to teleport and return home." Laren stares at Rictus with a look of determination. "Either tell me where they are..." Laren draws his rapier and cuts a hole in the barrier. "...or taste the power of the Rose Knight!" He resheaths his rapier. "I'm sorry. I'll help you with whatever your doing in exchange for the two scrolls." Laren smiles kindly.

"Fool, you really aren't from around here. Those two aren't active yet, and there's no telling when they will be. On the other hand, those are major scrolls, so they'd be impossible to miss."

He pulled the scroll out again. "And thanks to you, I have to take the time to rebuild this barrier, time that I could be using to find the new scroll and keep it out of the Divinists' hands. Get out there and start looking for a hole or something." He was able to cut though my barrier?

Laren stares at Rictus closely. Suddenly the pearl around Laren's neck began to glow bright blue. "Here! Guard!" A new barrier appeared around Rictus. "Save your energy. I'll help you find the other scrolls and defeat these Divinist with the Silver Rose Rapier and the power from my Burst Amulet." Laren smiled at Rictus."how does that sound?"

(Note: the Burst Amulet is only half as powerful as the scroll. Just to make things fair.)

"Fine. Let's go." Rictus stepped onto the dirt and proceeded toward the center, the most likely location for the scroll. Sure enough, there was a hole with a flight of stairs leading down. "Come on." I hope to hell they're not already down there.

(Hey, Do you mind if I create a Divinist just for the sake of at least having one?)

"Construction environment, activate! Ascend to the heavens and return, scarring the sky. Summoning art: Luminous Saber!" Holographic glyphs wrapped around Rictus's wrists, and two ivory sabers flashed into reality. "I don't plan to. Keep him busy so I can go get the scroll?"

"No problem." Laren smiled. Lumei pul out two balls of energy and turned them into Japanese long swords. Lumei laughed. "GO!" BOth Laren and Lumei charged at each other. They furious began slashing at each other to the point that their blades were almost invisible to the untrained eye. Even the slightest error would mean death.

Rictus flipped his right blade to face downward and sprinted down the path, dodging around the other two. If one's here already, this could be bad.
