I'm not just asking a question, I also want your opinion about this. Why do men pierce their ears and what for? I'm so confused even if the reason is for fashion.

Well why do people work out? Why do people eat the type of food they eat? Why do people wear the type of clothes they wear? Getting piercings is just like that. You don't need a reason if you're not sure of one, you just do it or like it. It's just the way it is. There's really no significant difference here, at least in my eyes. Judging someone on their piercings is foolish and a bit prejudice. I can say something about any type of trend of fashion sense out there: hair style, type of music, etc. and it'd be the same exact thing. Getting piercings is a decision someone else makes. If I got one, I could care less about what the hell anyone else thinks. ------- |

I honestly have no idea. I love tattoos and already know what I want. And most times people who like tattoos like pirceings. But I'm not intersted in them at all. I honestly think it looks stupid on guys to get pirceing. I don't mind them at all on women though. (go figure).

Piercing is as heavily linked to tattoos~ back in the ages they were considered to be sacred yet status-filled marks to be shown to the crowds--- you know, as a thing of respect. Countries like Africa, India, South America, New Zealand still allow piercings as a tradition, for the sake of religion and/or humanity. I won't say this guy is gay for having a dinky diamond-studded earring on one ear. I won't even say this guy is gay if he pierced everywhere (but I'll sure leave him alone xD)~ it's up to that guy to build that confidence by (re)creating the image he wished to hold and express it to the crowd. Looks are not important, personality is. And the question why the heck men pierce their ears is hardly philosophical. |

If women can do them, why not men?

I think because piercing now a days is 'in'. They think piercing would make them cooler and well let's say "in". And I think it's a part of being emo...w/c is 'in' as well. c': |

Native people are an exemption because its their tradition. There was this new era of men called metrosexual. It means they are highly sensitive to the way they look or present themselves. Some women said that it makes them feel sexy when they saw men with piercings. And they say that the weight of the piercing is a concern to the wearer or for aesthetic reasons.

maybe because it makes them feel independent. making the image "I can do what ever to my life and there is nothing you can do about it". "metrosexual" finally found the word again. if you watch paradise kiss you'll get the picture of the other reason. but those things are just not my style. beauty is in the eye of the beholder. |

personally, I think that it's stupid for a guy to wear earrings. I saw one of my classmates with some black cone-shaped spike earring. I bet if you punched him in the ear his earring would stab his neck. but hey. it's fashion. I think. kinda like with people dying their hair. hmm. I was brought up to believe that earrings were for girls, just like lipstick and high heels. I can hardly see why guys do it to look cool though. most of the time it's the unnoticeable tiny studded thing (what's the point of an earring if no one's gonna notice?) or something just plain ridiculous (what's the point of an earring that looks stupid?) and doesn't look cool at all. and if it's for fashion, you'd kinda have to care what other people think. but for the guys wearing it just because they like how it looks on them, more power to them. for the guys who are doin' it to look cool, they can do better than earrings. earrings for guys are dumb to me in general, with the exception of it being part of their culture, or if it's to symbolize something.

not to be rude but its rather sexist to find male piercing disagreeable and yet have no qualms with female piercing.....don't you think? |

OH WELL. I guess that makes me a sexist ignorant fool. I guess I was stupid then to think that earrings are just for girls. I guess it's also stupid and sexist for me to think that bras are only for girls and not for guys to use as a fashion statement. and while we're on the topic of thinking sexist, it would also be sexist for me to believe that stilettos are for girls. if girls can wear them, why not guys? I'll let my friend bob know that it's perfectly normal for him to come to school wearing a bra and walking in high heel shoes. hey, it's a fashion statement. chicks love a man with a bra. please excuse me, for being brought up in such a sexist matter. oh, and let me confess to even more sexist beliefs: I always thought lipstick was for girls. but it would be sexist to find guys using lipstick as a fashion statment disagreeable but have no qualms about females using lipstick! obviously, at some point in WESTERN culture, they were all used PRIMARILY by FEMALES. I am not fond of the idea of guys using earrings for fashion; for most guys my age it is a fad and I choose not to humor the fad nor advocate for it. If anything it should symbolize something important. I'm sure there is a cultural significance to earrings somewhere in the world, but I'm unaware of it at the moment. but seriously, how many teenagers do you know who wear earrings do it because it's a part of their culture? alot of them do it just to look cool. it's like people smoking just to be cool, minus the health risk.
