Bakuman - New Series From Death Note Creators

I'm wondering if anybody else has heard news of this new series. Just like the Death Note manga, story is by Tsugumi Ohba and art by Takeshi Obata. The first chapter was released on August 11, 2008 in Japan [Assuming Shounen Jump Magazine], but scans had leaked onto the internet three days prior. You can take a look at the first chapter in the series here. It may be too soon to pass judgment on the series as a whole, but I think that the plot is definitely original and unique to anything I've ever seen. Visuals seem a bit Death Note / Hikaru No Go mixed, but good none the less. Opinions?  |

I suppose it's a bit of both, Zparti-san. Quote from wikipedia: There are several references to pop culture and Japanese manga throughout the first chapter alone; among them the successful series Death Note, the previous collaboration by Ohba and Obata. Just poking fun at their own series as well as assuring it's not going to be of the same nature at all. I'm excited to see where they go with this series. x3 |

Hahaha~ A mixture of slice of life, comedy and drama will be nice. I was kinda lost when it was shown that the Uncle actually died cause he appeared in the 1st scene. I guess it was like a "memory" scene thingy~ |

yeah, now that you mentioned it..it was his uncle on the first scene.. that slipped my mind!hahaha maybe it was a backflash or something... or maybe his uncle became a ghost and is now guiding him to become a real mangaka!hahaha |

| Hhh, a lot from this first chapter resembles me... Aimed to be a mangaka, then backed off when i see the harshness of the world... It's just that i didn't have anyone to motivate me, neither did i propose marriage to someone when i was in junior high... That scene got me laughing so hard... XD |

I read this yesterday?? Hm...since it's still very new; I guess I need to wait and see how the story develop; but hey?? Aren't they trying to portrayed themselves and their story??? Hahahaha that's just my personal opinion. Cheers, mi-chan

Hmmm, I'd be interested to check out an anime version if possible. I hope it's different than Death Note though, though reading Sai's funny post, it might be a lot different than Death Note. If anything, let there not be an ending to a possible anime similar to Death Note's ending. D:

Hahah! Sai!! You need to go proposed someone to marry you!! Thats way you can head for your dream as a Mangaka! XD Personally I think that Bakuman is very much different from Death Note. It is less "dark" and more "funny"... and I definately agree with DA on the "not Death Note Anime kinda ending" ending... where everyone dies, lose their memory, lose their love ones~ |

I guess it was like a "memory" scene thingy~ Mm, at the very beginning where the uncle is, it had said "Seven Years Earlier." Or something to that effect. I got confused initially, and had to check back. xDD @Sai:: Omf. You should be mangaka. D= All of your drawings are so amazing. . So. Sai-san, marry me?? 8D Joking~~ But still. I don't even see how it could have an ending similar to DN anime. I just don't see alot of violence in the future of this series. . |

holy crap,eureka just proposed to sai! looks like you got your inspiration now pal! go out and achieve your mangaka dream!hahahaha yeah i didnt even realize the similarity between the mangakas and the protagonists! maybe this is more about themselves and their experiences in the industry? as for having a similar ending with deathnote? they can always kill themselves with a pen just like mikami di XD |

Wow. I got proposed! A little reversed from the manga but it's fine! Now let's find some national level genius that's all crazy about manga and we can start making one...... XD well i wish that could happen... Because i sure as hell can't write a decent story on my own... @DA lol, no way this would end like deathnote, it's a whole different genre... Come on, just try reading one chapter (well that's all there is by now...). I know you're not the reader type, but one chapter just for checking won't hurt... |
