This thread was made to show the capabilities of what todays next handheld can do, and it can do way more than expected. Now first let me explain what homebrew is: ''Homebrew is a term frequently applied only to video games that are produced by consumers on proprietary game platforms; in other words, game platforms that are not typically user-programmable, or use proprietary hardware for storage. Sometimes games developed on official development kits, such as Net Yaroze or PS2 Linux are included in the definition. Some of these typically go under more frequently used labels, such as freeware. The term doesn't, however, include commercially sold games that are developed without the console manufacturer's license. A popular type of homebrewed games is fangames. In Japan, these games are usually called Dojin soft, which is the way of saying this software is not illegal depending on what the software does.'' Allthough making homebrews is not neccesarily ''illegal'' it is still not recommended by the manufacturers, to the point you void warranty. Now that you know a little about what homebrew's are ill show you the famous ''Loop Hole'' in PSP, that allows us to modify it. In April 2005, a DNS redirection trick was discovered in the game Wipeout Pure's content-downloading feature that allowed regular HTML web pages to be displayed in its place. Using this trick, and with a bit of guess work, hackers spotted that navigating to addresses such as file:///disc0:/ would allow files from the UMD to be viewed, thus the discovery of PSPs executable format, the EBOOT, was figured. Using a dumped PSP system ROM image, and the knowledge discovered from the Wipeout disc, the layout of the executable format was successfully reverse-engineered by a hacker "NEM" and the "Saturn Expedition Committee". In May of the same year, PSPs using the 1.00 version of the firmware were able to execute unsigned code packed in the same format as EBOOT.BIN from Wipeout, but from the /PSP/GAME folder on a Memory Stick. This meant that PSPs could be used to run homebrew software, as there was no mechanism to check if the code had been digitally signed by Sony in this firmware revision (as was similar with the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 consoles - missing security features in first revisions). A proof-of-concept "Hello World" was released to demonstrate this. This resulted in the release of a number of homebrew software, which were all built with the GNU GCC and GNU Binutils, modified to produce code for the PS2 and PSP (MIPS processor devices). In addition, it became possible to dump Universal Media Discs (UMDs) using a homebrew technique. These dumped UMD images can be written to a Memory Stick Duo and executed, performing in exactly the same way as if they were being read from a UMD. ''how do i get my psp to run hombrew?'' I will show you how This guide is intended for use with Official Firmware FAT/SLIM PSP's. This guide will guide you through the creation of a Magic Memory Stick + Pandora Battery that will install or unbrick a PSP to 3.71 M33-2 custom firmware. ''Lets get started with the Magic Memory Stick. I will not share the program, remember google is your freind ''Universal Unbricker V3'' Extract the file and go to the Easy Installer folder. Start the Easy installer by clicking on the START Icon.  Select Language 1-3 Then press Enter.  Press any key to continue. Type in your PSP Drive letter. Then press Enter.  Select "1. Continue To Pandora installer" Then press ENTER  Disable the USB and Format your Memory Stick via System Settings. Then enable the USB again. Then press any key to continue. Press ENTER when it ask to insert new disc (you should already have the Memory Stick in since you just formated it). It will scan the Memory Stick.  Type Y then ENTER when it ask if your sure you want to format.  Take out the Memory Stick and then disable the USB. Then insert the Memory Stick and enable the USB again. Then Press any key to continue Select Option 4 "Universal unbricker for FAT or SLIM (This installs custom firmware 3.71 M33-2)" Type 4 and Press ENTER  The files will now be installed to the Memory Stick. After it has finished writing the files you will get an image similar to below. Just type Y and ENTER to finish the instillation of files to the Magic memory Stick.  Press any key to close the DOS box. You are now done with the Easy Installer. Now go to the ADD_ON folder that was included with the download above. Drag the PSP folder and 1.50.PBP to the ROOT of the Memory Stick.  When it ask to over Write choose YES TO ALL.  You can now go to /PSP/GAME folder and delete the despertar_cementerio, pan3xx, ospbt, pandora_battery and pandora_battery% folder because they are not needed. You are now finished with the Magic Memory Stick part of the guide. =================================================================== This part of the guide will give you some options on getting a Pandora Battery. The recommended option that I suggest is buying a Datel Tool battery... You can do a Google search and find a website that offers this type of service battery. A second option is Hardmoding the battery. This can be dangerous if not done properly. I take no responsibility if something goes wrong with this option. I also will not reply to any questions regarding this option. I do not recommend it and have not done it myself. You will need to take the necessary steps to find this information out on your own. I will however provide you with this guide HERE that shows how to Hardmod a FAT/SLIM Battery. After you have made the magic memory stick and got a Datel Tool Battery/Hardmodded the Battery you can now use them to install custom firmware to a FAT/SLIM PSP. Just place the Magic Memory Stick in the PSP and then place the Datel Tool/Hardmodded Battery into the PSP and a menu should come up. X will install 3.71 M33-2 to the PSP and O will install 3.71 official firmware to the PSP. After it has finished installing the files you can then turn off the PSP and replace the Battery with the normal 1. If you Hardmodded the Battery you will need to unmod it to get it back to normal use. =================================================================== Now it is time to install the UPDATES/ADD ON files. The first step is to update the custom firmware. Go to Game Menu Memory Stick and run MUX 2.0 application. This will bring up a menu that has all the updates listed. Choose the update by moving the X at the left up and down with the D-Pad. Then press X when you select the update you want. The Memory Stick Led will flash a few seconds (3.80 M33 flashes a little longer) and after it stops flashing you can go to EXIT at the bottom of the list and it will exit to XMB. Now run the UPDATE via Game Menu Memory Stick. Repeat the above steps again to install another update. For those wanting to go to 3.80 M33 just go straight to it and skip the 3.71 M33 updates. Those that have a FAT PSP you can also install the 1.50 ADD ON that corresponds with whatever firmware you choose to update to. As loong as you follow this tutorial right, youll be ok. |

Now that you have a ''Custom Firmware PSP'' Your PsP is unlocked and ready to show its true power!. Now i will teach you my favorite PSP, Mod's! Tutorial 2: Playstation (PSX) games on PSP! Youll need: -Custom Firmware PSP -Impaler’s PSX EBOOT Creator -PSP prx (all sony prx's) -POPSLOADER (comes with PSP custom firmware updates) -CD Ripping software to ''.ISO'' -Keys.BIN file (Allways found in ''Hot Shot's Golf 2 Save file'' Step one:Installing ''POPSLOADER'' on PSP. Installation Guide 1. Connect the PSP via USB and enable the USB connection. 2. Download Popsloader. Extract the archive and copy the seplugins (SEPLUGINS is the folder that will hold all the additional PSP plugins) folder to the root of your memory stick. (X:seplugins, if X is the drive letter of your PSP). 3. In the POPSLOADER (Wich will be inside the ''SEPLUGINS'' folder) folder youll see a folder named ''popsloader'' copy all the files from ''PSP prx (all sony prx's)'' into that folder. 5. Completely turn off psp. 6. Turn psp on while having the Left trigger pressed, youll enter the ''PSP m33 configuration menu'' 7. Go to plugins (press X) and youll see ''POPSLOADER (DISABLED)'' simply press X and youll see a message saying you have enabled it, now exit. And your psp will restart. 8. Congratulations! Popsloader is now installed and ready to use! The first time you run a PS1 game that has no popsloader settings, the plugin will display a menu to select the version of pops you wish to use. To change the specific pops version for a game that already has popsloader settings, hold the R Trigger while selecting the game from the XMB Menu. Step 2: Making PSX EBOOTS! (PSX Games formated to PSP) 1. Install ''Impaler’s PSX EBOOT Creator'' 2. Now you should ''OWN a legal Copy of the game before you can make a back up'' (not saying its impossible to run a pre made ''PSX-PSP'' game) 3. Run (Your CD ripping software of your choice, i use NERO) Rip your PSX game to format: ''.ISO'' if the PSX game has more than one CD (Example: Final Fantasy 4) Rip all CD's Label Them Accordingly (Example: ''CD1.ISO'' ''CD2.ISO'' and ''CD3.ISO'') 5. Run ''Impaler’s PSX EBOOT Creator''  6. Load every CD accordingly 7. Give the game a title 8. ignore extra setting, thats just to make the EBOOT more fancy, and makes file size bigger. 9. CREATE!!! 10. Once the ''EBOOT.BIN'' has been created go to your PSP drive. and open the folder ''GAME'' 11. under the ''GAME'' folder make a new folder (Example: Final Fantasy 7) 12. Put the ''EBOOT.BIN'' you just created in the created folder, Aloong with the ''KEYS.BIN'' file 13. Go to your psp, and run ''Memory stick'' under ''Game'' 14. youll see your game there 15. Run it!! 16. youll get a list of ''LOADERS'' to use for the game (my recommendation ''3.52'' but all work.) 17. You are done.!!! have fun playing your game |

| PSP EMulation is a very new concept, allthough theyre have been games that were able to be emulated on a pc (Example : Lumines 1 and 2) so yeah if you look hard enough you might find a PSP Beta Emulator. |

Think you've got my question wrong...what I wanted to know is if I can play PC games (Melty Blood, Touhou etc) in the PSP. I know a few PSP emulation software used to play on the PC but I'm not interested in those (prefers playing PSP games in the PSP) |
