has anyone here know a program that can be used to write Korean and Japanese characters. and can also be used in MS Word and other windows xp programs.

If possible the program must be free to download or can be found/download via torrent site.

Thanks

this is gonna be quick one

go to Control Panel
go to Regional & Language Settings
choose Languages tab
Check the checkbox "Install files for East Asian Language"
Click Ok; next it will require you windows xp cd, do what the systems tell you to do(it might require to restart)
After installation of the language packs, next is the inputting options
go back to Regional & Language Settings, and still on Languages tab; Click the "Details..." button
This opens the "Text Services and Input Languages"
To add a language; click "Add.." then choose desired language..do this as much as you want..
Next is allowing the Language Bar to appear.. click the "Language Bar..." button
check everything possible; then ok
then click ok.. and you're done!

you can now toggle the language bar to change input settings(default language is usually "EN")

Additional help:
Add Hotkeys for changing language inputs:
On "Text Services and Input Languages" again; choose "Key Settings..."
There you can change/make key strokes to change from language input to language input
kinda self explainatory when you get there..

Using the language bar..

first open desired program like.. msword

then choose the desired languange input via the language bar on your taskbar

for example choose JP(Japanese)

by default it is on "Direct Input" this means if you own a japanese keyborad you can input directly
but let's not mind that..

click on the "A" button and there many more options will pop up..

try hiragana

here your inputs will be in hirgana:

あえいおう

THANK YOU SO MUCH...

I'm just wondering about those characters, is it the correct one?

1.)I had this on MS Word 2003
ちもい

2.)On the other hand I wrote the same thing on a Japanese writing program and the result was this

あめ

---> both are written in hiragana.
And I checked the spelling on a Japanese book and it was written there that the second one seems to be the right one.

So what do you think of it?

hmm... it's probably in direct input.. change into a different setting.. change it into hiragana and try again

you tried inputting "Ame" am I right? 2nd one is correct.. the 1st was Chimoi

dang...going back beat me to it...

if you want to switch between languages too without having to click outside whatever you're in (ex: your typing into the chat box in a game, etc.) then you can press alt+shift to switch between languages.

Also, many programs have a function that you can right click and it will automatically have a language button or something like that that you can click to switch language options (I believe Word is one that does that...) assuming the language bar is active.

And just as a sidenote, if you ever want to install a japanese program or game that's normally in japanese, go into the regional and language options in control panel, click the advanced tab, and change the language under 'language for non-unicode programs' to Japanese. It really will save yourself from alot of mess if you're trying to install something like a doujinshi game. Be aware though that if you install something while you have it still set to japanese and the program or game you're installing has a japanese language option during the installation process, it will default to it during the installation process, and you may have to set it back to english before installing to get it to install properly.

I found out something very interesting the other day about that Kira,

If you have a recovery disc from another computer (ex: an emachines recovery disc), preferably the same computer, but if you have a recovery disc you can usually use it instead of a windows install disc to install language packs. It makes sense though considering many computers now just come with recovery discs instead of install discs.
