Whew..I made this thread because I really2 never understand about phobia(s) -where are they come from? Genetically from your parents?? -is phobia(s) could be deleted from our mind?? I was so sick about my arachnophobia (phobia of spiders) do you have phobia...??? |

hmm... Phobia are psychological problems people have due to trauma...(I think) and are usually formed when you're at a young age.. the trauma can be caused by just an misinterpretation of something or an accident of any degree I think Phobias are somewhat like Allergies(in only some cases)... the only way to be immune to it is to face it...

it can bedeleted from the mind, they use this kind of technique nowadays where they constantly expose the patient to whatever he/she is afraid of. And everyday, psychologists increase the amount of contact of the patient with the thing that he is afraid of. Like darky said, the only way to get over it is to face it ^_^ personally, i have a fear of being criticized which i believe is a form of pride, that i am now trying to get over with ^_^ best of luck to you Eon-san!  |

In addition, A fear and A Phobia can also be different at cases, you should know how to distinguish which is which.. A phobia usually gives the person a panic reaction while a fear gives the person a sense of uneasiness... (I mean phobia as in the actual disorder against the phobia which is a euphemism of or another term for fear) @shizu-chan: really...? that is a something you really have to over come.. being afraid of something that is usual part of life is really hard.. good luck in overcoming it ^^

| I guess a phobia always occur from a person, not from anyone. Like you, I have arachnophobia when I was young. I was always afraid of spiders, tiny or huge, I couldn't bear see it. But anyway, now I am in late teens, I feel it sounds really daft to be really afraid of spiders. Of course not all spiders are domestic and small, I still am afraid of spiders X_X But after my experiences of saving lost spiders back to their habitat, I am trying to get rid of that phobia. |

I remember one of the spiders I saved was... maybe an ordinary garden spider. It's non-venomous, that's a relief. But I managed not to get bitten. It was as huge as a coat button, brown in colour, and that is huge to me. It happened when I entered my bedroom, switched on my stereo listening to The Doors, then I saw this spider crawling on the windowsill and it was struggling not to fall. I was scared at first, then I tried not to, so I picked up a piece of paper and let the spider placed its legs on the paper. Took minutes to let the spider did it (it was so scared, crawling here and there). Then I opened the window to let it out. It was worth the effort. I felt glad. I remember last time, my sis was in my bedroom, she pointed out there was a flatten spider, squished dead flat, on the window rolling blind in my room. Goddammit, that was one awful view! DDDDDX I had to scrape it carefully and I did squeal (thought it might come back to life XDDD). Had to throw it away. Gross. |

@Eon Clyde: everyone has to be afraid at something... well I am afraid of insects(but not a phobic case) @kiseno: a lot of people feel that way.. for me.. I'm not afraid of death.. I'm just afraid of where I'll end up afterwards~

I do have a bit of a phobia about dying. Oddly enough, I'm not really afraid to die, but every once in a while, I start thinking hard about life and in an instant I'm thinking about death. I think things like, "What will happen to me?" or "What would if feel like?". I start to feel kind of scared until I start to try to think about something else and that seems to solve it. I wonder why I keep thinking about it when somehow it's easy to push away. It really sucks to be happy and bouncy one minute and then feel-like-I'm-going-to-die the next. I know I shouldn't even think about it, but it slips into my thoughts somehow. What do you think?  |

the psyc definition of a phobia is an over-exajurated fear of an object or concept to the point that it affects ur daily life heres the difference between fears and phobias -a fear of spiders is whenever u see a spider, you freak out and run away or sumthing -aracnaphobioa (a phobia of spiders) is when u take every precaution everyday to never run into a spider. like u wear an air tight suit so that one never touches you, ur constantly cleaning to keep spiders from cleaning webs, you seal up your door at night with tape so one doesn't get into ur room, you can't hold down a job because ur afraid to go outside and maybe run into a spider thats what a phobia is     |

a phobia of escalators for me (i m serious) I got this phobia cus i remember that i slipped and fell on the escalators, my knees were bleeding madly and everything, this happened when i m just four but stll freaks me out. when i go up the escalators, i imagine that i m gonna fall backwards and when i m going down the escalators, i imagine that slip again. usually i will stare at the escalators for ages before using it... people might think its funny though.. i imagines death, not afraid though. and i m afraid that everyone close to me leaves me (thats for sure). a question : if you found a potion of internal life (long life) and its only for one person, will you drink it/wat will you do with it?  |

Genetically from your parents??" -A:phobia is an overextended fear and fear is a form of behavior. though it is believed that some behaviors are genetically passed down genetically, phobias are not:PHOBIAS ARE LEARNED. to take example of ur "phobia", somewhere in ur past u encountered a spider and u were so freaked out about it that ur are afriad of spiders. U might not remeber that moment and the reason u probably don't remeber what happened is because u repressed the memory to ur unconcious mind but because it's in ur mind u still freak out when u see a spider -Q:"is phobia(s) could be deleted from our mind??" -A: well technically nothing is deleted in our mind, the memory is just lost. a phobia cannot be deleted from the mind however u can be TRAINED to not fear whatever u have a phobian of though a process called desensitization. Desensitization is when u unlearn the fear that u learned so long ago. It's a process that first puts u in a calm state from whatever makes u happy and calm. and while u have ur thing that makes u calm u are presented with ur fear gradually. so one week u'll be presented with a photo of a spider then next week one in a tank like 6 ft away. then the next week the tanks closer then closer then closer then the next week it comes out of the tank and then ur finally so used to it that u will pick up the spider and be perfectly calm i kno its scientific and all but does that help? |
