Because anime is way better than those bloody crap English soap operas!!! Come on, be grateful that we have anime shows on tv!!! That's why I like anime. And also, anime made me to teach myself drawing anime and manga from a young age. Now there are my reasons why I like anime. |

Anime. I like most of it. There are those that i do not like though. I dont like Inuyasha. Find it to be annoying with the same character relationship problems...I love Fate/Stay Night. I do like Ghost in the Shell and Samurai Champloo and occasionally Naruto aswell. I have seen a number of other anime such as Please Teacher, Please Twins, Love Hina, Ikki Tousen, and Girls Bravo. Barrowed them from my friend. I dont think they are as good because the stories arnt as in depth it seems. Maybe its just all the fan service in it. lol.  |

I guess since ive watched it since i was young, even though i didnt know it was anime. Personally, i like to watch animes with romance and comedy, like zero no tsukaima.  |

I like anime because, in my opinion, it's way better than American cartoons. Most of the time, American cartoons seem to fit into either two categories - babyish shows aimed at really little kids or perverted shows aimed at the adults. And these shows usually lack seriousness and don't have very touching plots. For example, I still haven't really seen any American cartoon that is on the same emotionally touching level as anime series like Haibane Renmei. I know there are anime series that fit into those two categories mentioned above, but there are also anime shows that are great without being perverted and still can be appreciated by older audiences. Plus, I love the Japanese music in anime. ^_^ |

Pretty much like what GuitarGirl said, but in my case, replace American cartoons with the many soap operas aired in local televisions in my area. They're either copied from international shows or just some "tragic" story cr@p full of crying here and there (sometimes a mix of both), and those things don't appeal to me.   |

Hah, I used to hate anime with a passion. What the heck it with all those wierd hair colors and eyes half the size of thier faces? Pokemon was stupid, I only had one Pikachu card that my guy friend gave me(the holographs were pretty though XD), and I didn't bother with Naruto. I've loved animation since I first saw the Lion King when I was two, but I never got anime. It was after I watched Wolf's Rain and Fullmetal Alchemist that I realized how utterly WRONG I was. I think anime appeals the me in the same way fantasy books did(I was a Lord of the Rings geek before I was an otaku-still am, actually). It offers a kind of escapism that you can't really get from most T.V shows these days. But escapism isn't the only thing that's good about it. It also usually has a great plot and characters, and you can tell that the creators put thier hearts and souls into it. It has thematic elements that are prevelent in the world's best films, but also can be relaxed and involve no brain activity whatsoever. There's also so much variety in anime- I'm never bored with it. |

When I first saw Sailor Moon, I was in awe by the animation. The Japanese art was a far cry from the cartoons I was used to, ie Ren and Stimpy. The anatomy was more realistic and the stories (no matter how outrageous or magical) were relatable even to me at that young age. I guess what got me to like anime was the transition of emotions the characters feel. An episode would start off with a joke and later it might spiral to character crying his eyes out. This 'realistic drama' effect has kept me a fan all these years. It has even moved me to tears on more than one occasion. |
