Well quick question. I am not too fond of VGA coolers and my mom's 8600GTS fan is slowly dying since i hear a whining noise and it's coming form the VGA cooler. So does anyone know a good VGA cooler for it? I was thinking Zalman but those things are pricey so are there any other VGA coolers that would fit a 8600GTS? |

Some of the Fan Cooler of the VGA Cards are generic type of Fans. There are no actual good VGA Card Fans or Coolers, but there is some qualifications to be known in purchasing Fans. 1. It must have Ball-Bearings in the Fan. 2. Soundless or exert less sound as possible while it rotates. 3. Must have high rpm. 4. Have a power to produce cool airflow in the heatsink. 5. Can fit on a default heatsink or have a heat-sink of its own. But due to your problem, a whining noise that you just hear might be dirt stocked in the Fan or the Magnet was been pilled or shattered off. If the dirt is the problem, better to clean it up, but if the magnet or the fan wears off, then you must purchase another fan. But for instance as you said about the price of the fan. If the VGA Cooling Fan has a half the value of a brand new VGA Card, better to upgrade your VGA card rather than to purchase a expensive fan. Try the generic Video Adapter Cooling Fan w/ Heat-sink and put a Cooling Chemicals in the heat-sink. But for me, generic types or branded types are the same, but check the quality and durability. |
