Hi minna-san, I'm starting to think, is anime contagious? The reason why I brought up this matter is that, my cousin is starting to act like one of the anime charater... Tatoeba...she's alwz muttering "Melome" a quote which Umagon is alwz saying...then my bro is alwz muttering "mada mada dane" For me, I had a tendency to add a "de su" before closing a sentence... Just like to know, if anyone here had share the same situation... My japanese friends sometimes found it rather amused, coz I would sometimes muttered funny anime phrase, which they're not aware of...like "bucha bucha, buri buri, bom, bom" Ja mata ne, mi-chan

I wouldn't say that anime is contagious. It's just like anything else. Some people don't know about it (or know little about it), but when someone shows them a little bit of it, they get naturally hooked. Other people just don't like it. I know a lot of people that simply despise anime. ![]() |

I guess it's easy to get hooked on, but I don't really think it's contagious. But it also really depend on what kind of people you're surrounded with. I mean, if everyone around you's having loads of pressure and stuff with homework and things like that, I don't think they'll really catch on anime easily. And if you happened to be surrounded by people who are really bored or willing to try new things, able to keep open mind and stuff, I guess it could be contagious. As for me, I got hooked on anime thru tv. I guess media exposure's an aspect too. Yar. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I don't think its contagious. I tried to get other people into anime but I was only sucessful to those who accepts anime. Not everybody loves anime. I sometimes think about my future... I love anime and I don't think I can give up watching them... I have no girl friend since like I was born and I am already 18! Well may be I have too high standard, after watching anime.... I don't like ugly girls... Sorry! I am an asshole. Anyways, I love watching anime but you know there is limit to your life you know? I mean, I think i passed the age where I would add anime phrases to my socialistic ability. |

Hi, In my group, 10 outta 8 of em are like me, anime kraze!! In school, we talk abt anime, on the phone we discuss anime...and almost my daily life's surrounded by topics about anime!! Sugoi desu ne... How I wish there'll be something like a wonderland or neverland. My parents are actually worrying that I would become anti-social and alwz commented that my brain contains nothing but anime... But I don't mind!! As long as I'm enjoying my life to the fullest!! I'm contented... Bansai to all Anime lovers!! We are the greatest!! ja mata ne, mi-chan

Wahaha... I agree. As for the issue of difficulty in BGR due to anime, I guess it's just that all anime characters are sooo perfect. If you watch them too much, to the extent that you believe them real, I don't think you'll find someone that meets your expectation anytime soon. It's all in the mind, it's all in the mind. But as I guess as long as you're contented with how you're livin now, it shouldn't matter too much. Yar. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I WISH! Most of my friends think it's stupid, but basically they don;t know what it is. All they see is Yugioh and Pokemon (I like both though) and the only good one they ever saw was Sailor Moon, when they were in 3rd grade. The only thing I got so far is the club I started and making some people realize that it is not that bad. Help. |

Hi, I loved watching anime. Most anime have good stories that I should say mostly connected to our lifestyles. In anime too, you could absorb the way of life, people cultures and human relation. Like Naruto for example...a ninja who was once being ignored had use his own way to attrack people's attention or even gained other's recognition!! Way to go Naruto. He has a motto "Never give up, if you do, you'll lost everything!" I loved that phrase. Such a strong will of motivation!! Ja mata ne, mi-chan

I think it is! My friend was really into it and I wanted to see what was so great about it. So I went down to the video store and rented out the 1st DVD of Last Exile, and watched it. I couldn't believe it! It was nothing like Pokemon, DBZ or any other thing Ive seen! It was so realistic and sugoi desu yo! After that I couldn't stop watching it. So yeah, my answer is YES! ![]() |

Hi, Desho...Hm...when I watched Gundam Wings, I understands that story line has something to do with political issues, dunno whether it's appropriate to say this or not. I found it rather interesting. It's also very much similar to the outside world now. Anime saigo... Ja mata ne, mi-chan

VERY CONTAGIOUS!!! One time my cousin and were in a hotel in Milwaukee and he had never seen anime before but just figured that he would hate it. I turn on the TV and Adult Swim is on. Inuyasha was on and I had never seen it, so I stated watching it, then my cousin starts to watch, and you can guess what happened after that... |

I'd say anime is contagious Well it's like a song that you don't quite get but someone you know listens to it and then you can't get out of your head. Something like that at least I know I watch anime because someone I know collects it |
Re: Is anime contagious?

barely.. yeah, people tend to obsess over it and others hate it. i have friends who absolutely hate it no matter how much other people talk about it and insist that they watch one. They ended up saying "i didn't get the plot" or "that was so stupid". Give them a manga and they'll say it's boring. |

I'm an anime addicted, there's no way to deny it. Even my MOM likes anime now.... at least some shows... However... Most of my friends say "it's stupid" "it's for children" or "it's a waste of time, to watch those big-eyed cartoons" when the topic becomes our beloved Anime. The fact it's just that most people don't start with the "right" anime. Take one of my friends, for instance... she likes romantic or funny stuff. Once, I was home watching Gundam Wing when she came over. We watched it together, because there was nothing else to do, but she didn't like it. In fact, she hated it. She said she couldn't understand the characters, nor the plot, blah blah blah. And then... it came: "anime is for kids, it's stupid and it's boring. I can't understand why you watch it..." As much as I respect people's opinions, I don't quite like when the say such things of anime. Then I went to my room. And got one of my Inuyasha DVDs. And showed her a particularly funny episode: "Mystical Hand of the Amorous Monk: Miroku" (Japanese title, I believe) and guess what? She loved it! We started watching Inuyasha from the first episode right away, and for the next four hours. She changed her mind about anime. Now she understands there are various kinds of anime, from romance to comedy, from horror to action, for adults and for kids. And guess what? One day I went to her house to give her a book she'd forgotten in her classroom. She opened her house's door and invited me to go in, and I sat on the couch as I waited for her to bring me some water. When she brought the water, I took a glimpse of her computer's screen. She was visiting a Gundam Wing's website. And I almost choked to death.
