How to choose a computer case/chasis
|
Hmm, I plan to build my new computer soon but I don't know how to pick a good case. I went online and do some shopping, and found cases of all sorts, with prices ranging NZ$100 to NZ$300 and above. How do I pick the right chassis for my computer? My specs are: Mobo: Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 Motherboard, Socket AM2, 0xDIMM, DDR, 4xDIMM, DDR2, 2xPCIe-16, 2xPCI, 3xPCIe-1, 10xUSB2, Firewire, Audio, ATA, RAID, ATX CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ GPU: GeForce 8800GTS 320MB PSU: (should I pick a chassis with build in PSU or not?)probably at least 500W I will re-use my old 160GB hard drive and optical drive ( both are quite decent stuff). I do not plan to overclock my PC. Any help would be appreciated. I live in NZ, so Newegg don't apply to me. |

Well personally i'd recommend an Antec 900 case with a Thermal Take 650 Watt PSU buy them separately. (Rule of thumb when buying a Case for a gamer PC always buy a PSU separatley since Case+PSU are usually poor quality) |

Get the PSU separate, it's usually a lot better or cheaper in the long run. Any case by NZXT I'd recommend, plus they look cool. (I've got one myself as does psoplayer)

There is a good chassis for computers that I know. It's "LIAN LI". It is good to a PC Chassis because it's made up of pure aluminum. It is good for all PC even it's in high temp or low temp. You also can equipt with a mini-cooling system in that chassis. If you're experience one in metal-craft, you can built your own computer chassis and costumize the looks of your PC. But just for reminder, use Aluminum Metal in constructing your PC Case like what I did in my PC. But for other reasons, if you buy a PC Case, it is always it has an aditional Power supply. But I recommend not to get that defaul power supply included in the chassis. But a separate power supply. I have no knowledge of some other power supply quality and also I never tally a good power supply brands hat has more durable and can protect your PC from power interuption. But I just experience while purchasing some power supply that a good power supply has those characteristics. 1. Dual Fan. 2. High Watts. 350W - 600W is better. 3. Has a Back Switch. 4. More Power Wire Suckets for FDD, HDD, CD-Rs, DVDs, etc. 5. Heavy! (I mean the weight of the Power Supply) |

measure the board most of the time if the board can fit so can every thing else. Thats most instances |

Board size shouldn't matter at all Cloud... assuming the case says it's designed for the ATX form factor, then size doesn't matter.
