Justice is not what is right, justice has to do with law, law is there to govern people to follow certain ideas of what is considered right. Is that good or bad? Both. Justice- n. -The quality of being just; fairness. -The principle of moral rightness; equity. -Conformity to moral rightness in action or attitude; righteousness. -The upholding of what is just, especially fair treatment and due reward in accordance with honor, standards, or law. -Law. The administration and procedure of law. -Conformity to truth, fact, or sound reason: The overcharged customer was angry, and with justice. (Abbr. J.) Law. -A judge. -A justice of the peace. Notice the words conformity and law recur throughout most of those definitions... |

Justice ha? This brings back mem'ries... i mean, what does justice really mean? Is it what Ueki's saying about Justice or is it Light and L's justice? For me, justice is when you fight for your own right, and also to have right means of having JUST. :') |

Greece is on fire. People die. They arrest a 55yo man fire starter. The say he had mental problems and let him loose. Then they arrest 2 11yo kids who try 2 start a fire. After that They arrest their parents 2 put them in jail. Justice is another point of view.

Dude, this thread really makes me wanna scream the word "SAKUJO~!!!" out loud. XDDD Okay, serious time. Justice--- Is where a situation must be settled by primary (e.g a country's constitution or legislation) and/or statutory (not from the government of the country) laws (e.g secondary laws like United Nations Human Rights Council articles. Morals can be used to put justice forth, although can be shrewd if can't be used properly in explaining the situation). Bear in mind that justice always emphasise on 'Equal and Just'--- both sides must be treated equally, and the just must be measured in possible, logical terms (to avoid bias). |

yep, this topic match better on philosophy thread. Justice(formal) = follow the Law Justice(personal) = things which sound "hey, this is the right thing" from my heart (more exactly my mind) Equality is... too impossible to be true. The definition and state of equal is too blur, I would say. But it is good for majority people that at least we try to make them nearer to equality. That's why law was created.
Dream ends when we wake up and life ends when we die.

Justice in reality is totally subjective, meaning everyone has their own versions of it and there is no one true justice. Of course you could say that justice was the law or if you were at all religious you could argue that your religions views were justice. This of course leads me to believe that there is no such thing as justice and it is just a word created by us to describe an idealistic form of equality and rightshousness. And i dont believe we will ever have true equality or a definite right. But yeah im just like anyone else in having no frikken clue to be honest^^

Justice is all context. Like how there is law and there is justice. In this day and age two seperate things. Example: A man kills a man. It is cold blooded murder and the only reason for the killing is that the murderer felt like it. In law the murderer would get up to 25 years imprisonment. In england usually he could get an early release and qualifications and skills training while he's inside. Hell british prisons are cushy places where there really is no hardship or punishment. In justice. I find out who the killer is and where he lives. I then proceed to his home and kill him slowly in the fashion that his victim was killed. I take no pleasure in the act and see it as 'an eye for an eye'. This is just an example, please note, I don't go around murdering folks or anything of the sort. I do however, believe that certain crimes are unforgivable and so an 'eye for an eye' system should be in place. |

equality for all? but that would be impossible...what would be equal for you wont be equal for me... heck even when defining justice would depend on the person's outlook even justice by law wont be justice for some... heck its to vague...its like defining right or wrong...its a matter of perspective |
Re: What Is Your Definition Of Justice?

But there are universal laws governing justice, aren't there? Justice is not a concept that is essentially undefined. When a person who does wrong to a human being, (and I'm not talking about vague "right" and "wrong") he must be punished. The person who has been wronged must have justice. That's black and white. |
Re: What Is Your Definition Of Justice?
|
You would think that there are universal laws to justice, but it really is persective. For example, there is a culture in the pacific islands that murder goes unpunished. That is also because it is extermly rare because that culture promotes non-violence to an extream; they don't know how to cope with murder. Justice is a persective from who ever is receaving the justice. |

Justice is a idea created by society to legitamise and normalise otherwise intolerable actions towards individuals who violate society's norms and mores in order to either discourage them from repeating their undesirable behaviour or prevent it by incapacitating [i.e. prison or death.] |
Re: What Is Your Definition Of Justice?

hmm. sooner or later gendou will pop in and state a very thought provoking definition of justice that will open our eyes or think twice, etc XD ummm. JUSTICE. everyone's sense of justice is different. you're sense of justice is different from mine, and we have different ideas of the consequences one should face for crimes. kinda got that idea from Death Note (yay for anime!)
wooo maplestory
