importatn question on potential study abroad issue

I'm a first year japanese student. On my 2nd year I plan to study abroad, for atleast a semester or entire year. Now when I study abroad it's going to be in Akita International University. It's like in the middle of no where and they speak a different dialect then Tokyo dialect.

I plan on living in Tokyo after my bachelors, is being surrounded by people who speak a totally different dialect and probably proncounce things differntly etc. going to really screw up my learning? I mean, 2nd year still new to japanese. I'm worried im going to pick up that dialect, learn it, and then it will really screw me up in the future?

or is it possible for me to learn this dialect, then come back and learn different dialect? and then my pronuncation! I'll be like having an american accent, then a accent from akita and trying to speak tokyo dialect at the same time?

wow. lol. help, tell me if its possible or if its a bad idea.

If you are japanese you must speak to me for I am always trying to learn new things!

japanese dialects do not differ in pronunciation a great deal. what i mean by this is, あ is still あ. however, some words and verb endings are different. once you actually learn japanese, you will find the subtle differences quaint and not at all a challenge. switching dialects is, actually, one of the easiest things to do, and at the same time, it makes you sound more natural by ten fold.

thanks man, i asked around a couple friends and I was overworrying it a bit.

shouldbe a fun and rewarding experience. I think tokyo dialect is taught at all schools anyways.

now im goingto sleep- its midnight and i must wake up tommorow for my appointiment regarding this whole study abroad mess.

so what's your experience with japanese and dialect? you say so as if you've been through it.

If you are japanese you must speak to me for I am always trying to learn new things!
