I came up with a philosiphy on the world and high school: "To adults, the real world is everything that happens in it; war, famine, jobs, everything. To highschoolers; the real world is what goes on in the high school." I hope I'm not offending anyone. Can anyone else come up with something diffrent?
Hollen: The monsters here are scawy!
Sapph: There's not a thing here that is as scary as me,boy! I've killed many people and destroyed many villages. Do you think they would mess with ME?
Hollen: Yes. You look like your scared.
Sapph: Am not! *snarling is heard in the distance* *jumps* Okay, maybe just a little bit...

Yep, that's true (to some extent). Kids wouldn't care less about the real world unless they are put into the position to experience it and view it in an adult's point of view. Sadly, though, I can't come up with something different other than that of yours...

I guess it depends on how involved you are when you're a kid. Like those kids you see getting involved in protests and doin' other stuff, I guess they're in the real world. I agree with the first part of it about adults. For kids, I guess it just depends on the kid.
So I drove into a parking lot one time and saw this person pull into a handicap parking spot. When you think handicap, you think wheelchair and whatever, right? So it just ticked me off when I saw the guy come out of the car perfectly fine. So then I ran him over.

we see 'real worlds' different due to our own age and the influence of our peers. We termed it as 'real world' since we take high school life seriously with little attention to complex issues like politics, government, etc. Though I'm basing this off from the majority, there are a few groups of high schoolers that are more concerned at life outside the school. |

When you grow up....your way of thinking will change. When we still a teenager...we (usually) only see events that really close to us, like friends, boy/girl friends, our school, new games, music, sport, etc...like that, and almost pay no attention on what happen to others that really far from us or we feel it's only play a little role to our life, like events that happen in the other part of your nation, politics, economy, social problems, etc. When you grow up, you will become more concern about things like politics and economic issue, social problems...etc...Because your thinking pattern has changed. And we will feel that many things mentioned above play a great role in our life, directly or indirectly. And honestly, i feel that too. |

The thing about it is that as teenagers, we don't care about anything ouside of the high school. There could be a civil war between the two Dakotas about which is better, and all the high school students will think about is who they're going to talk to at lunch. It's sad, but true. It'll take something that hits close to home, like the death of a friend or the splitting of a family, for a teen to start thinking like an adult. I know, it's happened to me. |
Re: High School

Jeez when you put it like that I feel jipped out of a childhood. I never cared about anything in highschool. Well no that's a lie I had my sports. But I could have cared less about the social system. I like to think of highschool as the grace period in life. Just old enough to start living for yourself but still in need of a swift kick from time to time. Growing up doesn't happen over night. Sometimes it's the drama wh**** who are the most informed people as adults. They just have to stop focusing on paris hilton getting shoved in prison and more on foreign outreach policies that are leading us into a global community. |

I'm still in High Skool, so you may not take me seriously, but I'm entitled to my opinon so here it goes. Sapphire the Chaotic Dragon Elf, I hate to say it, but I don't really agree with you, or any one else for that matter, no offence gendou peers. You make High Schoolers sound like a bunch of deaf, dumb and/or blind* degenerates, or the majority anyway. Believe it or not, we're not, we know whats going, we just don't think we have the ability, or the power, to deal with those issues at the moment. Really, can you blame us for thinking this way? World tragedy here, world tragedy there, world tragedy every **ck**g where. We know, but we also know we don't have the capabilities to deal with these issues, so basically, we have a "***k it" mindset. Knowledge of the real world is constantly being stuffed into our craniums, we notice. Heres my philosophy in minor opposition to yours: "High School opens the door to the reality. Adulthood shuts the door, bolts it, triple locks it and leaves the window wide open. Reality forces its way through. War, pain, suffering, poverty, wealth, loss, greed, rape, everything we do and don't dream of seeps in and suffocates us. This is Reality. So will you suffocate, or will you fight Reality." *I'm really sorry to the people who really are, its just a figure of speech. Again, really sorry.

how about, "high school, schools you in getting high, and real life fills you with strife."...XP philosophy on high school eh, it is the real world, just like the playground is the real world for a 5 year old and a nursing home is for the elderly. life changes all the time. when your making money is not the only time your living in the real world!!! caring about things outside your daily routine is something that can be done at any age, as can being self absorbed. there are 13 year olds starting charities. |

@Katt-san: "high school, schools you in getting high, and real life fills you with strife." hahaha. nice! "when your making money is not the only time your living in the real world" Indeed *nods*. I think it is true (to some extent too), it's simply different as your world "changes"... You'll not always do the same things and will not always have the same way of thinking. |

I don't know, or it's just maybe I'm just get stuck on my even world situation. But when I was in high school, I also did much concern to my things happened around me, about my country and the other bla bla bla. Somehow, why I said these all, the time I got my high school, they taught me to get more mature and mature than today. And it's not about thinking bout your own self, but also do care about your environment, the people around you, the situations and conditions where you live in. Because, without those all, you'll never have such beautiful life on high school =) |

I disagree with Sapphire, it really differs from person to person. I am a highschooler and a member therein of what I like to call the intelligentsia; and we are all very involved and aware of the "real world" politically, socially, economically, and philosophically (if to a somewhat lesser extent on the last one), even though I disagree with my colleagues 99.9% of the time in the political field. Conversely, I have met many adults whose sphere of awareness encompasses only the narrow and shallow events surrounding their own lives, who know nothing of the broader "real world" issues you described, however this brand is increasing prevalent at all ages levels here in the USA unfortunately... |

Sapphire's statement was one of generalizations. It's not meant to be taken as "everyone in high school thinks this way, deal with it," but as a matter of observation of students in high school, likely of personal experience as well. |

Oh, well in that case I still would like to disagree, perhaps that generalization should be narrowed down to certain groups of people, since it is not applicable to a great many of those it generalizes. Though I suppose I can not refute one's personal experience..... I'll stand by my previous statement. |
Re: High School

Not trying to be the funny guy in the group, but high school (mostly) has all of the things that the real world has. Famine- People standing in the lunch line asking for money.' War- Not on a gun-to-gun basis, but there are rivalries in high schools. Disagreements- Teachers and students hardly ever get along, unless one is 'teacher's pet'. Again, not trying to be funny. But this is how I see it.
I can't think of anything to put here!!!!

Good points, but I'm not sure that you can call asking for money in the lunch line famine. That's probably closer to poverty than famine. I'd have to dispute your claim on disagreements. There are many high schools where students and teachers get along like friends, even thought the boundary between student and teacher is upheld. You don't necessarily have to be a teacher's pet to get along with a teacher. |
Re: High School

True, true. Not all teachers and students have disagreements.
I can't think of anything to put here!!!!

I'm in highschool and I'm more aware of the world and its shades and workings than some of the adults I know. Sadly, my peers are exactly like that... |
