Integrated Graphics vs PCI GPUs

Ok, I have a friend who, about 2~3 months ago, bought a Radeon 9800 PCI graphics card for his 3 year old Dell PC, because it doesn't have any AGP or PCIe x16 slots ( only GMA900, which is not Aero compatible), but otherwise Vista capable. He managed to run Aero on his PC with the Radeon 9800,but he complained of reduced frame rates when playing old games, such as Yure's Revenge ( Red Alert 2 expansion) and Warcraft 3.What's worse, benchmarking ( Aqua Mark 03 was what he used) showed that GMA 900 has a higher frame rate than the Radeon. He was asking me if the GMA is indeed better for playing old games than the Radeon. ( I think he has a decent P4 processor and 1GB of RAM) I'm stucked myself, I'm not sure which will dominate, the higher performance Radeon 9800 ( or for that matter, GF5200 or even 6200 ) or the bottleneck of PCI. I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance. |
