lmao, I remember having to memorise all these terms for my Rudiments 2 keyboard theory exam which I took 4 years ago. I'll see which ones I can remember... 1. moderately loud 2. as loud as possible 3. uh, I've heard of the term but I don't remember what it was. 4. ah, how do I explain this? it kinda looks like this: |3. The thing points to where middle C is. 5. col legno, agh I've heard of this term. 6. pluck the strings on a violin or some other strings instrument 7. uh, lol. i dunno. 8. ah, I've heard of this term too. 9. expressively? 10. a trill? 11. never heard of this term. 12. wavering / quivering? 13. slow down 14. dunno. 15. dunno. 16. dunno, lol. 17. dunno. 18. lmao, dunno again. 19. uh... 20. dunno. 21. never heard of this. 22. huh? 23. dunno. 24. agitated. 25. dunno 26. right hand 27. left hand 28. dunno 29. dunno 30. dunno. lmao, it seems I've forgotten most of them.

1. mezzo forte - medium strength 2. fortissimo - uh, loud 3. demi semi quaver - I swear this one's made up 4. alto clef - the obscure clef that violas play in, also: clef that indicates the coming of the nosebleed register in cello music 5. col legno - bowing method where the stick is used instead of the hair (think beginning of 'Mars') 6. pizzicato - plucked 7. Gradioso al Fine - grand to the finish 8. Allargando - slower, more majestic 9. Expressivo - with much expression 10. Tremolo - a twitchy sort of bowing on the same note 11. sul ponticello - bowing on or really close to the bridge...probably one of the worst sounds a violin can make 12. vibrato - that wavy thing that string players do with the left hand. Also: the string player's method of disguising a slightly out of tune note 13. ritenuto - a slowing, could also be indicative of time flexibility (as with a soloist) 14. Slargando - excuse you 15. Morendo - softer, literally 'dying' 16. Mesto - sadly? I think 17. Giusto - briskly, with energy 18. Attaca - moving directly on to the next section 19. sonoro - playing with a loud, ringing tone 20. appasionoto - with passion 21. Calando - slower, calmer 22. come - a verb of the English language, or a beckoning 23. affrettando - quickening 24. agitato - more frenetic, speeding up 25. Sordini - referring to a mute (ex. con sordini, senza sordini, abbreviated sord. a lot) 26. Mano destra - with the right hand 27. Mano sinistra - with the left hand 28. Piacevole - ok, no idea...but it's making me think of pine nuts 29. Alla Polaca - in the style of Polka, or Polish dance 30. comodo - at first I thought this was supposed to be 'con moto,' but no...in relation to tempo, it is 'convenient' Ok...not bad, but still not great considering I've been a string player for 10 years. Man, I feel old. |
