I'd like to add here that Boku wa Koko ni Iru - FMA - 5793 and Ano Yume no Mukou he - FMA - 5796 aren't working for me either, as well as the Trance to Homonculus which was mentioned before. I get an error message and a page full of strange characters.

5794 (Trance to Homunculus) and 5795 (The Flame) have been fixed.
There is nothing wrong with the others.

ili: i recommend you uninstall quicktime player.

Neither link still seems to want to work still.

I've actually just started having the same problem as ili just with the recent song updates. I made no change to my system, yet I can only download using "save link as" rather than just clicking on it like I used to do.

I don't have Quicktime installed. Not that I know of O_o
I thought what aprobatio said was a good idea. But when I try to 'save link as' the file I'm saving is 'dl.php' How queer. Downloading for me was fine until yesterday evening *weeps*
It seems to be a problem with the recently added songs. So I guess I can always wait till they aren't new. Hope that'll fix it hm... *ponders*

Same here. I used to be able to just click the link and it will download it since my Firefox isn't configured to automatically open mp3 files. Instead I get the file loaded into the browser window as if it were a text file.

If you got the strange characters, the download is still good - the characters are what you would get if you opened an mp3 file with notepad (try it). Wait until the browser indicates that it has finished loading the page. Then save the "web page" as a file, and give it an mp3 extension.

Gendou, I don't know how your file hosting system works, but I would venture to guess that the wrong MIME-type is returned by the host (some sort of text/* perhaps).

Here's a starting point...

5797 (Realize - Fly Into the Universe Mix): gets opened in the browser window.
5771 (Save Me): browser asks for location to download to.

I clicked both links the same way.

Thanks Gendou, you're a champ!

And thanks for the suggestion on saving the webpage and renaming it to MP3, Jason. I'll give that a whirl.

[ edit ] Oh it works like a charm! Thanks so much for pointing that out Jason. Though... Boku wa Koko ni Iru doesn't download all the way. Which is odd coz the page fully loaded. Oh well. I'll live.

Ok.. I gotta edit the edit... turns out the song just is faulty. I downloaded using IE and the song still cuts off. Poooo!

Edit: Firefox/Quicktime handle most of the links just fine; just not the ones in question. Perhaps the incompleteness of Boku wa Koko ni Iru is what's causing it to come up as text.

Also, not sure if it's a bug or intentional, but accessing a link that turns out to be dead increments the download count anyway. It doesn't affect the ability to download the vast majority of links that do work, so it's no big deal.

@ili: no problem :D

@Bob: short answers are in pink.

> accessing a link that turns out to be dead increments the download count anyway

it's neither a bug nor is it intentional; it's just impossible/impractical to code it. once Gendou's server redirects you to where the file it is hosted, Gendou's server no longer knows if you finish the download or not. The only way this would work is if Gendou's server downloads them, and then transfers it to you... which is, needless to say, impractical because it does to bandwidth what 7 does to 9.

> Perhaps the incompleteness of Boku wa Koko ni Iru is what's causing it to come up as text.

Unlikely. The browser can't know the file is incomplete until the server reports that the file is done being transferred, so it doesn't affect how your browser shows the "save download as" dialog box (which happens before your browser downloads a single byte!).

Servers are supposed to report the file type of what it is about to send you, whether it is HTML, PDF, MP3, etc. Your browser then decides what to do about it. For HTML files, it will open in the browser automatically. PDF Files, it will automatically load Adobe Acrobat in your browser. MP3 files... well... you can have many different setups - a player might be set to automatically play the file for you after downloading it to a temporary folder. or, it may be set to stream (EVIL!). or, if nothing was set, your browser will ask you to save the file.

Ideally, you want the 3rd option: saving it to a file after asking you where.
If you have the first option, well, you can work around it. The file *is* on your computer, just in a temporary file. Run a search on your computer as soon as possible after the media player starts playing it. look for *.mp3 files created in the last day or month or whatever. if you find it, copy it elsewhere... it's a temporary file and is liable to be deleted by the system at any time.
Or you can fix it. In FireFox, go to Tools->Options, click the Downloads button, under File Types, select the entry for MP3 and hit Change Action, and choose Save to Disk. I imagine Netscape will be similar. I don't have step by step instructions for IE (it would mostly depend on what version of Windows+IE you are running) so Google that.
If you are streaming the files, you have to fix it. See above.
