As one of my professors once told us: "A good physicist, by definition, is LAZY." What's more... he's right! .oO° Life's THE CURE, the rest are details! °Oo. |

A good scientist, is a mad 1. A friend of today is an enemy of tomorrow. I am an empty shell. I don't feel loved at all |

Well I think its patience since I find it quite difficult to get everything about physics the first time round, you need to constantly read and reread everything as they are all linked together in some way. But as my own physics teacher says "all scienctists make fancy words that mean the same thing to make them look smart, it happens to everybody from scientists to doctors" You need lots of patience for this one since it goes in depth to everything and anything around you, its quite a lot to learn and gives you another outlook to things |

I think curiosity is one of the traits that a physicist has. Scientific discoveries happen when someone says: "hmmm... that's interesting." or "that can't be true, can it?" or "that's not right!". |

All the "good" physics professors & teachers I've met had that mad glint in their eyes... and ears like Master Yoda. (But maybe that's just the characteristics of a good physics TEACHER, and not necessarily a physicist.) All sciences need a good basis in mathematics, but I think physics especially so.

@Vashdastampede: I would tend to disagree about physicist being good at math, unless he or she is a theoretical physicist. Just look at Einstein. ^_^ Physics is a bit more like engineering than math, IMO. Physicists tend to be more practical than mathematicians, at least that is my perception anyway. Most physicists are also experimentalists. |

@WithoutYou: I was thinking about Newton's laws, mechanics, electromagnetics... which is, like you said, more like engineering. I guess I was thinking along the lines of number-crunching when I said "mathematics" and not so much higher / theoretical math. Still, I think having Yoda-ears may be a requirement to being a physicist. Or at the least some wild hair-do like Einstein or Don King.
