Hy! Has anyone seen this anime? I watched 41ep (there are currently 45ep). I really like it and was wandering what you think about it!  |

sugoi.. someone else has watched junni kokki besides me XD hmm perhaps some would know it better as '12 kingdoms' or with alternate spellings such as juuni kokki (or kokuki) sumimasen! my knowledge of japanese language is kinda limited XD anyways.. i watched it about 6 months ago..so i may have forgotten some of the details, but generally i liked it XD It wasn't like a typical anime..more like a collection of stories (some of them are juz left hanging w/o proper closure *grrrrr*) lolz.. what attracted me to it in the first place was the setting.. somesort like olden times China; perhaps it was.. since the 12 kingdoms was 'somewhere west of Japan' XD hmm..chapter 41 eh? you're abut finished then. So which stories did you like? I liked the first story best, followed by the one with the 3 girls. Basically, I liked the stories which had Youko as the main character XD. Least liked story? The one about the Tai Kirin..cos it was juz left hanging there. But I dun think Studio Pierrot could do anything about it, since it was based on the novels by Fuyumi Ono.. she stopped writing the novels to 'pursue other interests'.. so can't really say if there will be a second season for junni kokki..*sigh*.. animation-wise.. kirei.. the colours were fantastic and the soundtrack was very fitting..and of course all the mythology and the political drama in the anime got me hooked XD Even the opening credits was very well done XD

I agree about the music it's really good. I also liked the first chapter best and would give the story about Taiki the second place (I'd like it if it would continue but that's the way it is) At first i tought that the two girls were just anoying but as the story went on I liked 'em more and more I read on wikipedia that it's based by Fuyumi's novels and all but it didn't say anything about her not ever going to write more of 'em... either way it's a great amine with a great story I wish I could read the novels... |

i've seen it! i love it especilally the ending song. my sister got confused because they switch plots so much, but thats only because she never pays attention. my fave character is keiki

aha~! this thread reminded me that I haven't got the OP and the ED for juuni kokki in my collection yet XD juz downloaded from gendou.. *mental note: must remember to donate to gendou-san* Awesome... Edit: @ren yeah.. the story about the 2 girls + youko kinda bummed me out also in the beginning. But i wasn't pissed off at them, I juz thought..whoa..why did the anime turn so angsty all of a sudden?? Yeah.. I kinda pitied them.. I dunno who had it worse.. the princess or the other girl from Japan.. Did you notice how the animators sorta 'played' around with the characters appearances? Before the 3 girls met, they were angsty and bitter..and the emotions showed in their faces.. but after they had figured everything out, all 3 were portrayed to be quite pretty, in fact. I still recall the part where the princess was sent to live with the old lady, and the ppl in the village found out who she was...and tried to punish her using horses.. overwhelming to say the least XD

Yeah, I loved it. It reminded me so much of the old Chinese folklore plays that my grandfather used to watch all the time (he had dozens of tapes of them). Too bad it got cancelled before it actually finished. The Taiki arc was supposed to be a support for an arc that was never animated. Also, the novel actually only had Youko in the beginning. Sugimoto was added because Youko used a lot of talking to herself and questioning herself and Sugimoto fulfilled the role of being her critic.

The anime of 12 Kingdoms is a bit different from the novels, but is still excellent. It is brilliantly written and highly engrossing to watch - one of those shows that I couldn't put down and stop watching (I have both DVD sets). Almost every series I've seen reaches a point where there is a "business as usual" environment where the main characters have made their big achievement and things sort of become mundane. Not so with 12 Kingdoms. The story continues to evolve from survival to accession to political turmoil to war, never staying the same for very long. This will always be one of my favorite anime series ever. ^__^ It is disappointing that it was never finished, but they are translating the novels now, so I may yet discover the fate of Taiki and his ultimate connection to Yoko.  |

The anime was great especially the plot and the character development. It's disappointing that the anime had to be cancelled :-/ Anyone knows where I can download the translated novels? :3 |

@sir bon hmm.. i heard about that also.. about sugimoto not being in the anime.. or was it that in the novels youko was the only one that was transported to the 12 kingdoms? i forget.. @meilin-chan yeap..i agree with you that the story continues to evolve. Even though the stories are separate, yet it seems that it continues seamlessly, you gain insights about the world of juuni kokki with each story. anor.. i dun really think taiki had any connections to youko.. perhaps only in a roundabout way.. as they were coincidentally studying in the same school. I dun remember why was it that taiki suddenly went back to Japan? And it was during his grandma's death rite? Someone plis refresh my memory XD I juz wonder what happened to the Emperor of Tai kingdom..

Yeah, the novel only had Youko. The significance of Taiki to Youko is that in the arc that was cancelled, she was supposed to help looks for him. That female general that Taiki used to always visit before he made the pledge escapes to Kei and pleads with Youko to help her in her search for Taiki because Tai is in such a bad state after Taiki and the emperor of Tai disappeared. Where I'm reading at (before they stoped translating) is that they are wondering what she really wants because there is a rumor that she was the traitor that caused Taiki to disappear.

Juuni Kokki is the BEST anime I had ever watch !!>.

@ bkno9: Yeah, I just finished reading the first novel (which was freaking amazing - so good that i finished it in a day and a half) and Sugimoto exists in the novel, but only for two scenes - one was at the very begining saying high (and getting shunned) by Yoko and another in the vision that the sword shows Yoko being interviewed by the cops on Yoko's disappearance. Another thing is that in the novel, Yoko goes to an all girl's school so no Asano as well. The last major change in the anime from tha manga is that Yoko never joined/became a traveling performer (which makes me wonder if it will have an affect, if any, at Suzu's story later on).

@sir bon that reminds me.. asano really had it hard in the anime. I mean..REALLY. If i got stuck in a place like that where i din understand at all what was happening, prob I'd turn out the way he did. Crazy~! Well, at least he made it back to Japan. But the anime din show what happened to him after that..wonder if he recovered? hmm? why would you think that the traveling performer thingy would affect suzu's arc?

@bkno9 Well, in the anime, Asano did retain some sanity after Yoko smacked some sense back into him, but he ended up with a slight case of death following a return to his senses. He never made it back to Japan. I dunno if he appears in later novels though 'cuz I never got to read the translated version of the Suzu arc.

@sir bon aha~! gomen.. guess i remembered wrongly.. thought i felt something was out of place when i mentioned that asahino went back to japan.. he fell off a cliff din he? or was that when he initially disappeared? actually.. nvm XD he wasn't one of the main characters, prob that's why his death din make that much of an impact on me. are you reading the translated versions of the novels? could you post the link to it?

@bkno9 Hai, he initially disappeared when he fell of a cliff in the first arc with a hint from the Kyou-oh's children that he survived in the epilogue. He resurfaces later on in Suzu's arc when Suzu runs into him working as a mouney counter for the same traveling entertainers that Yoko worked with in Kyou. At that point, he was already partially messed up. As for the translated novels, here is the link Have to warn you though, most of the sites that it is linked to have vanished (the Otyaku one actually had more than just the 6th volume, but all of it is gone now) and quite a few of them are unfinished (which I really hated).
